Series thread: Cards at Phils

Pineiro vs. Hamels
Mulder vs. Happ
Looper vs. Moyer

I could see us winning 2 of 3, but that stinkin' Phils lineup is tough. Could go either way. The Phils are struggling now and they had to dive deep into their bullpen lately. That could be a factor.

I'm going to all 3, so I wanna sweep! :okman:

they will lose the game piniero pitches, although he will pitch beautifully, and only give up one or two runs, the bullpen will blow it for him.

Mulder is a loss.

Looper is a coin toss.

which 2 of the three did you expect them to win?

Expect? Read again. I said I COULD see us winning 2 of 3.

Also, did you think the Cards could win 2 of 3 in Boston? I doubt it, so it's possible to take 2 of 3.

Another point, the Cards play better on the road up to this point.

I kinda wished they had waited until after the All-Star break to give Mulder a start, but if they have to do it now then why oh why on a nationally televised game? Hopefully it really motivates him to pitch his best, but I have a feeling we could get embarrassed that night.

Well, we beat Hamels. Helluva way to start the series. Hopefully Mulder comes with at least his B+ game tomorrow night, but that may be asking for too much.

I'm going again tonight and I'm expecting a loss unless we can outscore Philly tonight.

Believe it or not the game isn't determined by the pitching matchup.. Anything can happen. Piniero and the bullpen were able to shutout the Phillies should be proof enough of that.

Exactly. I've never understood someone seeing, say, Tim Lincecum in the pitching probables and going, "Oops! There's a loss!"

Great pitchers don't go 35-0. Besides, this Cardinals team has been hitting great pitchers this year, and likewise, sucking it up against some not so great pitchers. As the saying goes, "That's why they play the games."

He barely hit Pujols with a pickoff and walked two guys with pitches 2 ft out of the zone. Take your money and go away.

What happened to Mulder?

What everyone except LaRussa expected. He sucked and had "shoulder soreness" after getting one out (on 7 or 8 pitches), walking two in a row, the last with a really WIDE ball, and damn near completely missing Pujols with a pickoff throw after the first walk.

Mulder sucked in AAA during rehab, had one "successful" bullpen appearance with the Cards, and totally sucked in his last bullpen appearance. The Cardinals answer - let's see what he does when he starts - 3 batters later - Shoulder soreness and gone as way too many Cardinals fans predicted would likely happen - if he didn't surrender 20 runs.

5 runs in 3 games.. If they don't get a bat or maybe even 2 soon, this team will eventually prove they are pretenders.
