Personally, I need a little structure, harmony, intricate guitar pairings, maybe a keyboard here and there. I just can't do super down-tuned, thrash metal power cords all day long. But that's just my own taste.

Sadly, I'm having a hard time finding much new in this vein these days. Suggestions would be MORE than welcome.
You must try Dawn of Tears. They're from Spain, but all of the melodeath fans seem to love them.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of that genre, but I'll list several bands that you might enjoy.

Arch Enemy, At the Gates, Insomnium, Kalmah, Mercenary, Norther, Omnium Gatherum, Skyfire, Wintersun, Norther, Wintersun, Mercenary, Disarmonia Mundi, Scar Symmetry, Darkane, Naildown, The Absence, Blood Stain Child, Noumena, Mors Principium Est, Soulscar, Blind Stare, Zonaria, Gates of Ishtar, The Arcane Order, Amon Amarth, Eternal Tears of Sorrow, Infernal Tenebra, Intestine Baalism, Karelian Warcry....

I would suggest Arsis, but they're more technical death metal than melodic. I love them, so that means they're probably not what you're looking for.

That should keep you busy for a while. If you want more suggestions, let me know.
I'll add Norther to that list as well... not my thing, but you might like em.

And Arcturus.
You may also like Quo Vadis. They're a melodeath band from Quebec. One of the first death metal bands I got into. Really catchy, melodic music, though they are a bit heavier than a band like In Flames, in my opinion. Their vocals really aren't cookie monster though, so I don't know how "death" metal they really are.

Supposedly arrived at the house today via mail:

Martyr's Hopeless Hopes (I suppose this doesn't count, since I've had an iTunes copy for a while. But, I finally got my hands on a physical copy to complete my collection.)

Isis' Celestial

Behold... The Arctopus' Skullgrid

Great song. I'm not a big rap fan, but I do like the old stuff. I love Bone Thug.

The Sodom song "Bibles and Guns" freaked me out. There is something in the song that sounds just exactly like my daughter coughing hard. I pulled my headset off 3 times before I figured out that it was in the song.

I just realized that this is a newer release for Sodom. Who releases a self titled album 20 years after their debut?

Killing Joke for one. In fact, I they had two self-titled albums. Their first album and another s/t 23 years later.

Both are awesome.

Yeah, I guess it could be worse. Weezer has 3 self-titled albums (though the second s/t is known as the green album and the third is known as the red album). If I were king, I would allow only the first album to be self-titled.

It pisses me off that eMusic only has one album by Primordial. Primordial rules.
