Tivo Series 2 & the February Digital Switch...questions

I am staying at my cousin's until probably March or April until our house is finished.
He has cable, but no cable box. Just a cable going from the wall, to his tv.
I'm not an expert on this, and I've done some research but can't find a clear answer.

1) Will his cable be effected by the February digital switch since he doesn't have a cable box?
2) If we get a series 2 Tivo, which we are thinking of doing, will it work without a cable box after February?

So, to use the Series 2 Tivo after February on his setup, we'll have to get a cable converter box in addition to having the Tivo?

The only people effected by the digital switch are people using rabbit ears. The TiVo will not work with rabbit ears after february, but will work with cable, with or without a box.

That's what I suspected, but couldn't find concrete confirmation anywhere.

Thank you sir.

Well, got the Tivo a couple days ago.
Gotta say, it's pretty sweet.
I wasn't aware how easy it was to transfer recorded shows from the Tivo, to your computer over your local network. Tivo provides a free program to install on your PC that will transfer shows quite easily. That's huge. You can even start watching them while they are transferring. And you can then burn them on DVD if you want. I'm not sure how that is legal, but they have directions on how to do it on Tivo.com.

Now I'm ready for the season to start. :letsgoblues:

My dream is to make a website of Blues highlights. This Tivo 2 might be a step in that direction.

Well, the Tivo has been hooked up for a week or so now...and I gotta say, it's pretty nice.
Being able to transfer recorded shows from Tivo to my PC and watch them there, is a great feature. :okman:

I get HD hooked up next week. I can't wait. I've had an HDTV for 3 years without actual HD service.

I was waiting on the Blues to get their act together. 36 games was enough for me to take the plunge.

Mostly because I'm anticipating more in the next year or two. I think in 2 or 3 years we'll have 100% of the games in HD.

I have an HD Plasma, and we had HD service before we sold our house and moved out. HD is great...the viewing experience is just so much better.
We'll have HD service again once we get our house built and move in...so I'm looking forward to that. It just sucks I'll miss the 36 HD games this year...not a huge deal though...I'll live.
And I agree...in a few years every game should be in HD.

Directv wants like 70 bucks to come out and install HD service.. They actually said they'd give me the receiver free and I'd just be paying for the installation.. But since I have the standard receiver hooked up now I wonder if I could just pick up the receiver from them and hook it up myself. Since with a regular package and Center Ice I'm paying $90/month I can't justify paying 70 upfront to pay 10 more a month for HD. That said I really do want it.. Saturday flipping between the Mizzou game in HD and the Blues game in regular quality.. It was quite the contrast and part of me wanted to watch the Tigers get killed just b/c it looked prettier.

I'd imagine all you'd have to do is voice how unhappy you are and just flat out insist that they waive the fee, or else you'll switch to Charter or Dish, where they don't charge an installation fee.

They tend to waive crap like that if you threaten to drop their service.

I once got DishNetwork to give me a refund on half of the Center Ice Package once because we were switching to Charter in the middle of the season. I told them it was their fault I was switching because they couldn't fix a signal problem I was having and they didn't offer an HD DVR like Charter did. They didn't want to refund half of the season, but I was persistent and kept asking to speak to "a manager"...and I got what I wanted.
