Anyone venture onto their lakes recently to test the ice?

I'm headed out tomorrow to clear snow in anticipation of a Saturday pickup game. When we hit 0 or so, the ice was already 4.5" thick... the 60 degree day ate about 1.5" out of the center and melted the edges, but the recent cold has my pond frozen solid on the edges with 5.5" where the water's more than a foot deep.

I just get to skate behind a fargin snow shovel for an hour or so to clear off a nice hockey surface.

isn't that lake like only 3 feet deep?

i believe so, which would help explain why it was so solid.

Our pond is pretty deep. We measured 18 ft. at one point. The neighbors say it's at least 20 ft. deep in other spots.
Last week it was pretty thin right around our dock...but seemed to get thick a couple feet from the dock.
I haven't drilled to check the ice thickness though....maybe tomorrow.

Just finished an hour-long stick and puck with a few guys... was fun and good exercise.

Tonight's probably the last night for a while.
