Your wife is right, whether she is or not. Be agreeable and go out for a steak dinner afterwards. You both win.

I'm marrying a Christian in August. We have a great relationship (obviously, or we wouldn't be getting married), but one of our few disagreements is on religion. We talk about it often though, she clearly knows my stance on things and I know her stance on things. It's going to take work, we understand that, but I think we'll make it work.

Maybe I'm being optimistic, I'm not sure. But we've talked about how it will affect our marriage, any children we might have, etc. I'm willing to go to church for her, but believing is another story. You can't force belief on anyone, although there are many who try. It's one of the main things that has driven me away from religion as a whole.

Organized religion and crazy bible thumpers do this every single day.

people try to force non-religious belief on other people all the time.

in fact, the idea of "you can't try to force belief upon other people" is an attempt to force people into accepting a belief. Trying to persuade somebody is trying to force a belief on somebody. Trying to convince a girl to sleep with you is trying to force a belief on somebody. Going to a job interview is trying to force a belief on somebody.

If somebody tries to "force" their beliefs on you, just tell them to shut the (Frank) up. If they don't, then (Frank) 'em. If they do, hey, great.

constant complaining and moaning about it is more annoying than any christians, if you ask me.

Faking it through a Baptism or something seems worse than not going through it at all. I mean, if God is really up there paying attention to what you are doing (I doubt it), don't you think he'd get just a little pissed at you making a mockery out of his shit?
I think the solution is to find a church that isn't quite as rigid. There are lot's of the new breed non denominational churches that you can go to for an hour on Sunday, get something out of it-or not, and go home till next week. Without all the pressure to conform and other BS. The services aren't nearly as horrid as the Catholic crap I had to sit through for 18 years. Grace Church in Maryland Hts is like that. Of course I only went there because I was trying to get into this chicks pants, but that's a whole different story.

Well yeah, for less rigid you can go to a non-denominational church but I mean if you want to go to heaven you should probably go to a Catholic church.

That story sounds much more interesting.

Yes, it eventually worked.
No, she didn't call me daddy. She was only about 7 years younger than me. The girl a month ago never called me daddy for that matter. Her old friend asked if I was her dad.

My wife drags me to Grace Church occasionally, but last time we went 50% of the sermon was about donating money for their massive expansion and she hasn't wanted to go back since.

There is a difference between the two.

What religion do you know of that isn't organized?

I went to the Little Drummer Boy service Christmas '07. The spirit of that is the boy had no money or fancy gifts for the Christ Child, but he played his drum and made him happy. The next service I went to, the first of '08, the theme was tithing, or giving 10% of your income to the church and how you can make this work. Using this rule of thumb, Jesus woulda rather he stop by the Bethlehem Pawn Shop, sold his drum, and given 10% of the procedes to the church. I walked out half way through and haven't looked back. But the place is still waaayyy better than the trad Catholic or Baptist type churches. Grace wants your $$ for improvements, not to hush molestation victims.

"And I also have a problem with people saying God wants 10%. Well, he knows where I live, he can come pick it up. And I hope he has some ID...or can at least walk across the pool."

Incontrovertible evidence? You do know we're talking about religion, right?

This individuals statement seems to indicate that you must go to a Catholic church in order to secure your "ticket" to Heaven.

I am curious as to his evidence to this fact?

Double post.

Section319 You don't have to answer that. I was baiting you if you will.

I think we all oughtta know that membership to any Church will not save us.

Yes, I do believe that the closest example we have to the NT Church Jesus set forward in the Bible is in fact a Baptist Church. Not a Southern Baptist Church either. I believe the current SBC is just as liberal as the day is bright.

But rather an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church. One that preaches Hell hot and Heaven for the saved.

I myself would recommend a visit to either Ed Bragg's Church in Manchester (http://www.lbbc-stl.org/) or Jim Bellar's Church in Arnold (http://www.21tnt.com/abt/).

Again Church membership will not save you but these gentlemen can tell you how you can know for sure you'll go to Heaven when you die.
