I'm not saying that there aren't programs out there... just that in about 15 years or so, it hasn't really come up.
Microsoft Outlook... my office uses Exchange. Entourage sucks and the native OSX apps don't support all the Exchange features (Yet).

Microsft Excel - Yes, it's available on Mac, but the Mac version is pure and utter crap compared to what you get on Windows. Word isn't as good on a Mac either, but it's not as awful as excel.

VMWare Server Console - Not available on mac at all

These are the ones I've come across in 3 months using a Mac at work.

Maybe I should have specified... for me.

what is it you do on the computer that you need windows for?
Just off the top of my head...
- Last year when we had Netflix, we couldn't take advantage of their online streaming service on a mac. That may have changed now though.
- Tivo remote desktop doesn't work on a Mac.
- Games
- Our Luminis Content Management System at SIUE...not Mac compatible. Pretty big deal for me since that is a lot of my job.
- The kick ass Pro Show Producer slideshow program (probably the best slideshow program out there), is not Mac compatible...and I use it often at work & home.
- Tournament Director ...it's a free poker league manager. A great program that I use to run my poker league and run the blinds timer...not Mac compatible.
- I will occasionally upgrade my monitors or add an internal DVD drive or add another internal hard drive or two... you can't do that with an Mac unless you buy a tower that costs over two grand.
- Not to mention numerous other small freeware programs that I depend on daily, some of which don't have a good Mac equivalent that is also free.

A Mac just won't work for me. But if it works for you and you don't mind the higher price tag...then more power too ya.
I just think you're paying more and getting a machine that does less.

what's the point of paying MORE to own one?
let's put it this way:

what is a firewall?

what is virus/spyware protection?

I don't even know if I have either on my machine and haven't given either a second thought in 4 years.

that's the point

have fun running/updating all your security crap that slows down your machine down, fellaths.
Viruses and Malware are starting to creep up for Macs now.

Mr. Jobs says you should look into Anti-Virus software.
Sorry.

I thought I heard that Netflix streaming works on Macs now. That's good. I loved that when we still had Netflix.
Tivo Remote Desktop for Mac only works if you buy Toast, isn't that correct? The last time I checked it was.
On a PC, it's just a free program to download.

Yes, you have to "buy" toast to rip stuff off the TiVo, but you can stream your music and stuff to the TiVo for free... and actually now there are a few free solutions to getting your stuff off of the TiVo, but I haven't had a chance to try them yet.

Yeah, the Netflix thing was annoying... but the funny thing is, I went from not having any Netflix streaming in my house, to suddenly having 4 devices that stream Netflix.

I can get a Netflix movie though...

My HDTiVo
My Xbox 360
My Blu-ray player
and my Computer

And I didn't buy a single one of those for that purpose.

One more piece of software that I can't get on a Mac...

Internet Explorer.

Seriously... as a developer, I need to test stuff on IE. And a screenshot from browsershots doesn't cut it.

That is an excellent point.
Testing software/websites/etc. on the most popular browser out there (even though it sucks) is kind of important.
