to be fair, most of the screw job given to the big three was done by themselves. that massive loss of market share since the '70s wasn't caused by the UAW. sure, GM grabbed their ankles every time there was a threat of a strike, but it takes two to tango. if their business model was scalable and wasn't based purely on volume and economies of scale then they could have either a) accepted their diminishing market share without endangering the entire us auto-industrial complex or b) been leaner and better able to compete with the imports. and don't even get me started on the complete lack of innovation and ability to meet the needs of american drivers. no way did the UAW cause that.
apparently Ford and the other two thinks that "innovation" is creating the same (Franking) car in three different flavors (escape, tribute, and mariner... the list goes on)
