USMC Boot Camp

I'm leaving for Marine Corps Recruiting Depot San Diego on monday for Recruit training. I've had some good conversations with some ex-military guys here, Thanks a lot to you guys. I'm scheduled to graduate November 4th, so I'm going to miss the first month of the season as well as the rest of the MLB season. I'm not going to have access to any information about sports for the next 13 weeks beside the newspaper clippings my parents are going to send me a few times a week. The Blues better be 12-0 when I get back :letsgoblues:

Also, someone else can claim my sponsorship of Backes

Just remember what I told you

1. Take it one day at a time. At first that will seem hard so take it meal by meal.
2. Do not take anything the DI's call you personally. You will look back and laugh at the names they call folks.

When I was in boot camp they allowed us to get the San Diego newspaper on Sundays so you can hopefully still do that (in addition to the mail your folks send) and keep yourself informed with what is going on not just with the Blues but the rest of the world too.

If your friends/family want to send care packages to you, tell them to send enough for the whole platoon. If they don't, tell them to only send a few things at a time. Otherwise you will be told to eat as much as you can in a minute or two. When I was there I told my dad to send enough for everyone and he sent me 6 bags of goodies.

Good luck and Semper Fi

Good Luck!

I guess I'll have to search for you tube videos myself the first month of the season...

Good Luck man.

Bootcamp in hindsight was a nightmare. I still have my DIs etched forever in the recesses of my mind.

But, there were moments that it was fun. Keep your head together and don't take what the DIs tell you personally (good advice Guppy).

It does go by quick.

Go easy and stick it out.

Graduated yesterday. I have to say it was the most challenging, interesting, and rewarding experience of my life. Not to mention it was (Franking) hilarious at times too. I can't wait to watch the Blues smoke the Flames tonight. It's been too long since I've seen some hockey.

I just set up a trip to St. Louis to watch the Blues play the Sharks on the 14th. I also got tickets to see them play the Stars in Dallas on the 23rd. Damn it's going to be nice to finally be able to watch some hockey again. It was a great spirit booster to hear about how they beat Detroit both games in Sweden. I'm stoked to finally see them play again tonight.

I was 2 points away from Expert X_x. I shot a 232 on Table I and a 71 on Table II.

I'd never fired a weapon in my life before I went, so I'm not that pissed.

Dude get that poundage up so you can suit it up for the Blues someday! haha.

Seriously though- congrats. Going through a marine-run training camp was the most difficult thing I'd ever had to do in my life so far and I know it takes balls and a lot of fortitude. Congrats. Wear your accomplishment with pride.

I have no idea what the scoring means since it has changed since I got out. We just fired from the 200 (with rapid fire), 300 (with rapid fire), and 500 meters. 250 was the highest score and we had to get a 190 to qualify. I think 190 to 210 was the pizza box, 211 to 235 was a sharpshooter and 236+ was an expert. I never fired anything before I went in either and I ended up with the pizza box.

They made a whole new portion of the marksmanship qualification called Table II(table I was the part you were describing). You shoot on a human shaped target from 25 meters and you have to shoot 1 of 3 areas on the body: the face, the chest, or the pelvis, and you have to do it in a specific order. I confused myself as to where I was in the order and what I was supposed to be shooting next on qualification day when I was shooting my drills and ended up with a shitty score on Table II, which knocked me down from Expert to Sharpshooter. You need a combined score of 305(out of 350) on Tables I and II to get Expert. I shot a 303  .
