The recent storm did a number on our roof.

I had planned on enjoying "trade deadline day", kicking back and watching the trades roll in and listening to all of the hockey trade talk on the radio and reading what you hosers had to say about the trades....but noooo, instead...I spent the day cleaning up our property, dealing with roofers, talking to our insurance company and cutting up a bunch of down trees.

Scary ass storm it was. Not something I want to go through again.

Wow, that's quite a day! Glad you're all ok and the insurance will take care of it.

Cue Goon's reply about being a rich fukk that can afford to fix everything in 3...2...1...

Nice house, you must be rich from all the money you make on this website.

Seriously though, that's terrible. Hopefully you can get everything sorted out with the insurance company quickly.

Atwood Construction, Taylor Roofing and Chris Loesche from Erie insurance... they all acted very quickly and were great to work with yesterday.
I highly recommend them. :okman:

I am exhausted and sore. I've had a busy last few days.
I finished roofing our shed on Saturday.
Went to the Zoo on Sunday with my wife and daughter.
Spend all day Monday cleaning up, cutting up the fallen trees, etc.

It's nice to be at work...sitting at my desk.

Pfft...we're not paying for it...insurance is. That's what insurance is for...this is why we have been paying into it for years. We just owe the deductible, which is like $1000.

We've never really had a big insurance claim before. It's nice to see the system work so well when called upon. Impressive really.

Just noticed some damage on the workshop I am building.
The wall that took the brunt of the storm started to cave in from the winds.
It's kind of hard to see, but the 2x4 double top plate above the window in the middle of the photo should obviously be stacked, not pushed in and shifted.

If the 100+mph winds had lasted another 10 seconds, we may have lost most of our roof and the workshop may have been messed up pretty bad.

I was able to sledgehammer the wall back so it's almost plumb...but it's still caving in a bit...about 1/2 inch. Gonna work on it some more tomorrow, get it plumb, then reinforce the walls with some angled 2x4 braces and secure it all back down with screws so it should fare better in the next 100+ mph wind storm.

Pain in the ass.

It's all good fun until you hear a story like this and how it impacted someone you know (at least on a hockey forum).

Hope you & yours are able to put this horrible, tragic event behind you and move on.

That's ok. My trash can is probably in your back yard. You can have mine.
