Jim Edmonds: HOF'r or not?

.284 avg
393HR
1199 RBI
8 Gold Glove

My dad and I, who usually agree on sports, argued about this at bw3s tonight watching the cards game. I say he's a HOF'r cuz he was arguably best CF in baseball for a decade w/ decent offensive stats and no steroid allegations. Thoughts?

Considering the MLB HOF is the 'hall of really good' - Maybe.

If MLB had the high standards the NFL has ...... not a chance.

I really think it depends on (sadly enough) other outfielders and their history with steroids. Take for instance the recently retired Manny Ramirez. He's a HOF lock...until you factor in the PED use. Now, Edmonds retired in Jan/Feb of '11 and Manny just retired. Say they come up in the same HOF voting group. If Edmonds comes off as the clean one, maybe his numbers look a little different. Also factor in that if there are other players who used that come up for voting, they prob won't factor in much either (Palmiero, Sosa, Clemens, Bonds). You won't have as many spots taken, and Edmonds may be near the top of the 'clean' bunch. Again, this is assuming he never used and nothing comes out.

But overall? I don't think he is. He was great defensively, but not quite the game changer Ozzie Smith was (someone who got in solely on defense). At the same time, he was much better offensively, but not at a Hall of Fame level. Tough call, but I still say no.

I can only think that so many that are thought to have used PED's that won't get votes might help his chances. But I just don't think he will make the cut.

No freakin' way. He doesn't deserve to be in.

If his stats looked like this:

AVG .290
HR 400
RBI 1400
8 GG

then yes... his numbers are damn good, just a little short if you ask me. He failed to reach 2000 hits... had he just done that, plus gotten to 400 jacks, he'd have a better chance. jim Rice barely got in with better numbers... way better considering the era he played in. Then again, that dillhole Ozzie Smith got in so... ya never know.

Plus he drove that douchey HUMMER around town all the time like a jackoff

Hall of Fame voters most definitely take this into account when filling out their ballots.
