David Freese

They are saying it's a 'clean' break. He will still need surgery and the time table for return is unknown (hearing mostly a month to two months), so what do the Birds do?

Is Punto the answer? Make a move on the 40 man and get Carpenter up here? (Does anyone know if he's been doing well down there?)

Thoughts anyone?

10 games ago, Carpenter was hitting ~.230. In the last 10 games he is hitting .367. I think he might be the answer, eventually, but I'd like to see him show a little bit more success in Memphis first. I think Punto/Descalso should plattoon there for now, and if Carpenter keeps tearing it up, you can call him up in a few weeks.

This reminds me of Bagwell, which is concerning.

Freese has had some bad luck. Clearly, he's a solid player, but I say bring up Carpenter and see what he can do. The more likely choice? I see a platoon at 3rd with Punto/Descalso, etc. But Carpenter had a great spring. TLR has seen what he can do. It may not be the organization's first choice, but why not? Give him a shot, I say.

Bernie Miklasz mentioned this on the radio earlier as an interesting possibility. I don't like it, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Move Pujols to third. Move Berkman to first. You then could have a couple of options for RF. Craig is back, so you could give him extra playing time, or try to platoon him and Jay there. You also could relegate Schumaker to a utility role and move him between 2B and RF.

I don't like that for a few reasons, not the least of which is Pujols' elbow issues. But, it's an interesting thought.

I think they'd move Yadi to CR (full time) before they moved Albert to third (full time). They wouldn't even make him run the basses last year, I can't imagine they would have him playing third.

I know he did the other night, I just can't see them playing him there much....like not even a full game.....ever again.

I could be wrong, you never know with TLR.

I agree. I don't think there's much chance of it happening either, and I'm thankful for that.
