Macho Man Randy Savage Dies In Car Accident
23 minutes ago by TMZ Staff

Macho Man Randy Savage -- one of the greatest wrestlers of all-time -- died today in a car accident in Tampa, Florida ... TMZ has learned.

TMZ spoke with Randy's brother, Lanny Poffo, who tells us the wrestling legend suffered a heart attack while he was behind the wheel around 9:25 AM ... and lost control of his vehicle.

Earlier this month, Savage celebrated his 1-year anniversary with his new wife Lynn.

Savage was 58.

Macho Man began wrestling in the WWF in 1985 and became a superstar with his trademark catchphrase "Ooooooh Yeaahhhhh."

UPDATE: Florida Highway Patrol tells TMZ ... Savage was driving his 2009 Jeep Wrangler when he veered across a concrete median ... through oncoming traffic ... and "collided head-on with a tree."

Savage was transported to Largo Medical center, where he died from his injuries.

Savage's wife was a passenger in the vehicle during the collision -- but survived with "minor injuries." She was transported to a different local hospital where she was treated.

According to officials, Randy and Lynn were both wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.

Cops say alcohol was NOT a factor.

An investigation into the accident is underway.

Sad deal. A lot of Slim Jim's will be consumed today in his memory.

How will the Macho Area be remembered?
Ya know he was minor league teammates with Keith Hernandez in the Cardinal Organ-i-zation.

Thank god he wasn't in the Cubs organization, he certainly would have made the Bigs and never wrestled.

OHHHHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I guessing the years of steroid use may have a slight affect here.

Wrestling blows now, but it was awesome in the 80's. Macho Man was always my favorite. RIP.

Yesterday morning, two of my colleagues were going on and on about something, totally acting like idiots so I told them dudes, you're acting like morons, what the frank are you doing? They looked at me like I was on drugs and asked if I'd never watched WWF and they were imitating Randy Savage, which was a fact... I never once in my life watched entertainment wrestling.

Some sort of irony that he dies that same day.

Yup...as a kid in the 80's, I loved WWF & WCW wrestling.

My brother and I loved the Saturday Night's Main Event shows...fun stuff. Of course, that was when I was a kid and thought it was real.

Macho Man, Rowdy Roddy Piper, The Missing Link, George "The Animal" Steele, Kumala, The Hart Foundation, The British Bulldogs, The Killer Bees, Andre the Giant, Honky Tonk Man, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka, Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake, Big John Stud, The Iron Sheik, Sergeant Slaughter, etc., etc.

Ah...the good old days.

Wrestling sucks now. Haven't watched it since I was a kid.
