One of the greatest managers in baseball history.
If he returns next year, he'll move into #2 on the all time win list.

Re: World Series: Cardinals vs Rangers

I was browsing through the mlb.com Rangers discussion forum to see what the Rangers fans were saying about game #1. Wow.

A bunch of them were upset because they felt Berkman's double was a foul ball.
They even provided video of the play that showed the ball hitting in foul territory before going fair and were quite upset the umps blew the call, they were also upset that Buck and McCarver didn't talk about it, etc.

The only problem is, as we all know, the ball was fair. Wasn't even close.
The ball Berkman hit struck foul ground by home plate, and then bounded into fair territory and was easily 6-8 feet fair when it crossed first base in the air.

Uhhh....that's baseball 101 boys. You learn that rule in little league.

Then they were called out on it by some other Rangers fans and shown the actual rule...and then they tried to say how flukey and lucky a play that was for the Cardinals. (like it's a rare occurrance or something  )

Newbs.

Well that sucked. I'm trying to remain positive in the fact that the Rangers had to 'steal' the game away from the Cardinals, but now we head down to their place. It's a long series still, now it's down to a best of five mode. But either way, Pujols, you HAVE to cut that ball off.

I still don't like taking Freese out of games late. That irritates the crap out of me. Maybe for the bottom of the 9th when we have the lead...but not in the 8th, in a one run game where his spot in the lineup may come up again...like what happened last night. It should have been Freese up instead of Descalso with 2 on and 2 out in the 8th. Maybe Freese gets a hit there and extends the lead. Freese is the hottest hitter on the team, and he's tearing it up. You get him as many at bats as you can.

But, even so...
We had the lead with Motte on the mound in the 9th.
Pujols has to cut that ball off, even though it was a poor throw from Jay. I'm not sure if he thought Kinsler was going to try and score so he let it go through to Molina, or if he just missed it.

Being up 2-0 going to Texas would have been huge. Now it's back even.

That was one of the weirdest games I've ever seen. Since Pujols doesn't play in New York, does that mean he's not going to get a snazzy nickname like Mr. October? I mean, he crushed 3 homers as well.

Should be up 3-0, but I'll take 2-1.

That is the single greatest offensive performance by an individual player in WS history IMO.

3HR- ties record (and a pretty significant one)
6RBI- ties record
5 hits- ties record
14 total bases- sets new record

I'm not an expert on WS performances and couldn't tell you who number 2 is (probably Ruth or Jackson in one of their 3HR games). But, there is absolutely no way somebody had a better offensive game in the WS than that given the records he tied/set.

Except Ruth did it under the influence of booze, Jackson did it under the influence of trying to make Billy Martin look bad and Pujols did it under the influence of steroids. So I think Ruth wins this battle.

I couldn't tell if Derek Holland was just that good or if the Cardinals approach at the plate was just that bad. Either way, we're all square again.

Carp vs. Wilson again tonight. No matter what, this series is coming back to St. Lou.

I think he was just that good (albeit had a little help from the umpire). He was 2nd in the MLB w/ 4 CGSO's during the season. And, somebody on MLB Network said he has better raw talent than Cliff Lee. I don't know if that's true or not, but I definitely believe he's legit.

If we win tonight, we take 2 of 3 on the road, which is HUGE in a playoff series.

Have you seen proof that Pujols is currently taking steroids? Or proof that he ever has?

No, he has not. And that's because there is none.

What a weird, crazy game. I think the Cardinals have been delivering knockout blows to teams since September (to use a boxing analogy). But I think the Rangers are the first team since then to be able to take the Cardinals punch and counter with an even bigger hook.

I hate to say it, but I think the World Series ended during the inning with Napoli’s double. It just felt like that pulled any remaining momentum away from the Cards. But they’ve had their backs against the wall for two straight months, so anything could happen.

I think we saw a lot of what I've come to expect from this line up....save Freese......They ca pile up the hits and the RBIs in blow outs but coming up with a clutch hit is like pulling teeth.

The only people in the world who don't know he's juicing... and finding ways to circumvent the testing system... are Cards fans. And as soon as he's putting up the same monster numbers in Washington next season, you too will accuse him of it.

Pujols' numbers are fairly consistent year after year. Unlike...say, someone like Brady Anderson whose '96 season is very suspicious.

Continue on with your baseless accusations.

To disagree, one doesn't have to be disagreeable.
