Let's recap this season...

Opening day: Go Cards! Will be tough without Wainwright though.

a few days later: this team is done!

Enter, Glen A Richter: You guys need to relax, at the end of the season it'll be the Brewers and Cards and Reds fighting it out for 2 playoff spots.

Mid-Season: Meh, we're in trouble.

Late August: This team is finished, give me some hokies.

September: I don't care anymore.

Mid September: Too little too late.

End of September: Maybe but they'll let us down again.

October: Holy crap, but they'll lose.

Post Phillies Series: That was our world series.

Today: 11th world series championship.

Yeah, you guys have as much faith in the Cards as I have in the Blues. Maybe my lack of faith will pay off too.

You are correct on every step of the way. But truth is, they were done. Everyone thought the Cards would lose to the Phillies, Brewers, and Rangers. It wasn't until they beat the Phillies that I really started to believe this team could do some damage.

I didn't completely give up on the team until August. When they were swept by the Mets, I think everyone, including the Cardinals thought they were done. Then in September, they kept pulling me back in, game by game. It was a wild ride, improbable. I think this was an under performing team that probably should have ran away with the division but didn't. They never could get on much of a streak until September rolled around and then they just didn't stop.

it's insane. It's teams like the '06 Cards, the '11 Cards, and the '08-'09 Blues that make me always hold out hope, even if I've pretty much tapped out and conceded the season.

I mean, Game 6 man...you can't get any more 'done' than that.

So the first time you say that the Blues are done (which should be in about two weeks), I'll make sure you remember this.

I was saying that until Atomic Dog decided to make Elliott the starter. Now I'm confident again.

How about we talk about Holliday and how (Franking) asinine it was to sign that idiot to that huge contract?

I got a ton of shit at that Lounge shithole talking about this. I jokingly said he was no better than Skip Shumaker.

Well, if anyone still posts over there, tell those mensas to check out the playoff stats for Holliday and Skip. Skip wins.

Signing Holliday was freaking stupid. he sucks in the field, strikes out too much, and generally blows.

Am I wrong?

With the payroll and talent they have they should win the world series every year. With that said I still (Frank) em. I would rather wear a certain red jersey from from a much hated hockeytown than wear ANY cardinals merchandise.

If I had to choose, there is no other way.

meh, he was injured during the postseason, so that's not a fair measure of his worth. When he was healthy this year, he had a pretty monster year. Hell, he had a pretty solid (albeit probably not $17mil-worthy) year despite an insane amount of injuries.

is he always going to be injured? Is he always going to make some stupid play in left field? Is he always going to strike out a ton? That dude swings through more down-the-pipe fastballs than anyone. What the hell?

I just want to like the guy, but I'm finding it difficult to do so. :|

and btw, "monster" year? um, no.

I qualified the monster year comment by the parts of the year he was healthy. He actually was doing really well for awhile. Hell, his first half split has him hitting .324 w/ a .995 OPS, 14 HR and 49 RBI over 67 games. Over 162 games, that projects to 34HR/118RBI w/ a high average and OPS. Those kind of numbers generally draw discussion for the MVP. His 2nd half obviously was not nearly as good. I don't know if that just means he was overachieving the first half or if injuries hindered the 2nd half.

I agree that his batter's eye is pretty weak as well as his defense though. And, if he's always injured, he will never live up to his contract.

Yeah, it seems like years ago.....but Holiday was clearly a dominate player for quite a stretch there.

I think he crumbled mentally after all these damn injuries and he was trying to right the ship whit one swing of the bat.

I believe some time off will certainly do him well, and he will be his usually All-Star self next year.

I think that's probably pretty accurate. He hasn't always swung at as many balls for strike three as he did in the playoffs, and certainly not as many terrible ones. So, he was likely pressing a little trying to force his way out of a slump, which obviously doesn't work.
