Joe Kelly needs to stop this bludgeoning by the Pirates. Leggo!

7-0 in the 6th. Lynn won't be coming in, so I think I like our chances.

Lynn is one of the most frustrating pitchers I remember the Cards having. It is possible that I overrate his stuff, but I think he has the ability to be a legit 2 or a great 3. But, he's so damn inconsistent. Something goes wrong and he just seems to melt down. Until he proves that he can throw his best stuff almost all of the time, I don't see how we can trust him. I'm not advocating moving him out of the rotation (yet anyway), but he makes me really nervous going into the post-season.

Oy. Waino. Our staff is struggling to the finish.

I don't know what to make of it. Waino threw 128 pitches 3 starts ago. The next to starts he was horrible. Is that a coincidence? Did the Reds pick up on him tipping pitches? Is it just random struggling? I really hope it's tipping pitches because that is super easy to fix (the easiest of the 3 anyway).

I have lost faith in Lynn. I think he has the stuff, but he is clearly too inconsistent to be counted on.

Miller had a bad August. Who knows how he will bounce back?

Kelly has been great, but I think he's been lucky as well. His WHIP and ERA aren't in line. And, it is likely that ERA will be the one to normalize, not WHIP.

Wacha has been fantastic out of the pen. But, will that translate to the rotation? His inning total is a bit of a concern as well. He's at 118.1 this year between minors and ML. I don't know what his cap is, but I can't imagine it's much above 150, if it's even that high.

I'd rather not talk about Westbrook.

Big sweep!

I was at the game yesterday, thought the crowd was pretty sedate for a game that had huge implications.

I was really just hoping to get through this stretch with the Pirates and Reds within striking distance because our schedule is so much easier from here on out. Finishing with a 1.5 game lead on both (now 1 on PIT and 2 on CIN) is huge. The division is ours to lose at this point. We have a lead and don't play anybody good the rest of the way. They play each other twice and PIT has TEX as well.

I don't want to look too far beyond the division race because it's definitely not locked up yet and it's the important race. But, the race between us, the Braves and the Dodgers is huge. I just don't want the Braves to have the best record because that means we play the Dodgers in the NLDS. If we catch them and play the WC or the Dodgers catch them and we play the Braves, I'll feel much better.

Magic Numbers:

Pirates: 11
Reds: 9
Nationals: 5
DBacks: 1

And we're only 1 game behind the Braves for the best record in the NL. My preference would obviously be to get it and have home-field through the NLCS. But, I really really don't want the Braves to get it (making us play the Dodgers in the first round, assuming we win the division, which we will).

Nationals lose today, Cards are officially in the playoffs. Now time to clinch that division, boys.

Yep. Magic number there is 5. A win tonight makes it 4 and puts us 3 up on both Pirates and Reds with 2 series to play. A couple of days before Labor Day I told my dad we would win the division by 3 games. It's looking like that might come to fruition.

Wow, 26 outs and then an infield hit on a deflected ball off of Wacha's glove. Oh well.

I haven't heard the clip yet, but apparently in the postgame press conference somebody asked Wacha when he knew he hadn't allowed a hit. His answer: "The first inning." That's pretty awesome.

That was so incredibly close. Even when he missed it I thought Kozma would get it, but he threw it just wide. To be fair, he was charging full bore, throwing off balance, so it's a wonder it was as close as it was.

Either way, Bud Smith still stands as the last Cardinal to toss a no hitter. Bud Friggin' Smith.

Wow, today just about did it. Reds are done and magic number on Pirates is 1. Now let's just get home field advantage.

Awesome, awesome, awesome. Obviously there is still business to be done but things are looking in our favor. I do not want to play in that wild card game again this year.

Both the Braves and Dodgers lost too. So, yesterday literally could not have been better. We were the only NL playoff team to win. .5 games up on the Braves and 2.5 on the Dodgers. HFA would be nice, if for no other reason than we don't play the Dodgers in the NLDS. They scare me.

After all this time, it's still setting in we're Central champs. That was one of the best division races I've seen. A 3 team race literally the entire season and no one ever really got out to a huge lead.

Now best case scenario is we end up in the 1 seed and avoid the Dodgers in NLDS.

Currently, Atlanta is losing to the Phillies, which is great.

Win today and clinch HFA through NLCS. And we're the hottest team in the NL heading into the playoffs. I really like where we're at right now.
