Should we remove the political forum?

Postby cprice12 » Thu Oct 23, 2008 12:53 pm

The current level of talks in the political forum have some people concerned.
Some LGB members have suggested that the political forum may actually be bringing the entire forum down and creating unwanted conflicts on what is supposed to be a hockey-first forum.
So I'll ask you guys...would it be best to remove the political talk forum from the list of LGB forums?

If enough people want it removed, we'll do away with it. However, on election day (or a few days prior), we'll create an Election Day Thread in the OT forum to discuss the election...but after that, no more politics.

Say... a 60% vote will be needed to remove the forum? Sound fair?

Thoughts?

I'd rather keep it. Yes, it's pretty shitty in there right now, but it's a big election with candidates that energize each end of the spectrum.

I really don't want to have to wade through pages of shit in the OT forum which is were it'll end up. (Hell it's already spilling over into just about every other forum.)

What we really need is a classifieds forum for people to sell their tickets.

I don't go to the Political forums, cuz I hate talking politics. But I have noticed lately that political-based things are creeping into the Blues board, and I personally don't enjoy that. I read about hockey to get away from that sort of stuff.

So -- I vote we keep it, but confine the political discussions to it.

This whole place seems like a shell of what it used to be. GDT's barely eclipsing 3 or 4 pages against division rivals???? Maybe we should unban some people.

Flashchat cuts down dramatically on GDT posts.

I can't say for sure because I haven't been on during many games this season so far, but I'd suspect Flashchat's the reason the GDTs aren't as long as they used to be.

Personally, I never go into the political forum because I hate talking about politics with anyone, let alone people I consider friends, but my worry is that if the forum goes away, all of the vitriol will spill over into everywhere else. It already does, to some degree, which is irritating enough. So I guess my vote is to leave it in place so everyone else can go in and scream at each other there and I won't have to read it.

I'm torn. Practically, I don't read it (or even use the "show new posts" button for the purpose of avoiding it) because all it seems to do is make me mad, and being mad about the Internet is fairly pointless. Philosophically, I don't mind it being there. If people want to talk about it, knock yourself out. I'm not sure how I'd vote.

I voted to keep it, even tho I rarely go there anymore, because it's hard to have a reasonable discussion without it turning into a pissing match.

Like a lot of other folks, I'd keep it just to confine the political stuff to that forum.
Just enforce that aspect. If someone can't comply - boot their ass.

Keep it.

definitely keep it.

But please, enforce a rule that there is to be no political discussions outside of that forum. Its fine where it is, people can choose to go in there when they want and read it and everything. The problem is when it starts spilling over to other threads on different forums.

For example, there was a thread talking about HD TVs in the OT forum, and someone said something about having a nice TV, then some other poster said something like "I'm sorry George Bush has made your life so miserable". that is totally out of line.

Just have a strict policy against posting anything relating to politics outside of the political forum.

I vote for option C. The politics board should only exist in election years.

Keep the thing and when a thread on the St Louis Blues Discussion forum gets political, ala the Palin dropping the puck thread, move it to the political one.

Have seen experience with this on Octopus Overlords and as long as moderators move the political stuff in a timely manner to the political forum, the politics stuff will leave the Blues discussion forum. It takes time and considerable moderation though, which is a bitch as I've experienced moderating the Rams (Original Herd) forum.

uh, i haven't been here for previous election year, but it seems like it has overflowed all crazy like lately cause of this presidential election. before all this madness started it seemed like the political form was a normal political forum...correct me if im wrong...

So umm...I voted for the wrong one. I meant No and clicked on Yes. I think I've ruined the election for everyone. It would be tied (as of right now) if it weren't for my stupidity as an uneducated voter.

It sounds like I'm joking but I'm actually serious.

And while I'm posting I'd also like to say that the political candidate of my liking is far better than the political candidate of your liking.

Don't remove the political forum.

Do move all threads that slide into politics to it.

I gave up reading that forum a long time ago because people are too polarized today. Even people that I agree with politically piss me off with their shrill defense of their position.

Let's keep the hockey forum pure and relegate even thing else to the proper forums.

You know what I'd really like? A "View All New Posts Except For the Ones In The Political Forum" button. Seriously. I read every other board, and it'd save me some time.

Maybe it's possible to do something like all new posts in forums you subscribe to?
