And who said they were going to be swept?! 27 outs away from a world series championship!

I wasn't around in 1968, but I remember 1985 all too well. "27 Outs Away" is nice, but I'm not ready to party just yet.

Especially considering that timely errors have cost DET two games. These games were lost by shoddy defense, period.

One game. Errors turned close games into lopsided games in Games 1 and 3, but the Cardinals had enough earned runs on the scoreboard to capture both of them.

With decent defense, the series would be tied 2-2 right now.

++!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Close.... but I would rather be swept than be one game away and loose. It's happened before. 3-1 is nice, but we need a few runs and 27 outs before we can celebrate.

BTW, I am flying to Detroit in the morning to visit my best friend who is in the ICU after an October 6th accident and he is not doing too well. He hasn't posted here, but is a member. (F Detroit) While living up in Detroit he became a Tigers fan, but is a Cardinals fan first (One of the BEST I know)..... He wanted this series soooo bad and hasn't been able to enjoy it. I ask you all to pray that he pulls through and recovers quickly as he wore teh Note proudly at every Blues-Wings game in Detroit last year. Thanks, GO CARDS!

Nope. It's Karma paying us back.

- The stumble by Flood in centerfield in '68 cost us the series against Detroit.

- The Dinkenger call in '85 followed by the error by Clark basically cost us the series.

- The numerous misplays in the Metrodome in the '87 series vs. the Twins.

- The horrendous baserunnning goof by Suppan in the '04 World Series.

It's just evening out for us...that's all. Karma owes this franchise a few gift runs in the World Series.

The better team should win.
St. Louis has been the better team. They have played better baseball...not even close really.

Detroit is lucky they haven't been swept already. Maybe we win game #2 if Rogers doesn't cheat...hell, we were a single away from tying it in the 9th anyway.

I can't say how many times while watching the Mets series I felt like STL was just barely staying alive... in this series that has not been the case at all. STL has a huge amount of confidence and have been pretty much dominating. Add awesome hitting by some clutch players (Molina, Eckstein, etc.) and those timely errors by Detroit, the Cards are headed in the right direction. Its not like those errors Det. made were difficult plays by any means... the mis-throw to 1st base tonight was ridiculous...

Yes, Detroit has the talent in their pitching, but they don't have the experience or the confidence.

Throwing out 2004 since they were never really in that series, the Cardinals had a better team in 85 and 87 and the Brewers had a better team in 82 IMO. Lots of luck goes into a 7 game series and the better team doesn't always win. The Tigers helped the Birds out quite a bit in game 4. Maybe it's time for the Cards to get the breaks this time around. Like others after 85 I'm not counting anything until it's over. Let's finish these Tigers off tonight in front of the home crowd!

Hey, on the bright side we might get to see Rogers a game earlier!!!

Yahoo!!
The rain means a good friend of mine who had tix to this game is going to be out of town. Now it will be me and the wife heading to the game instead...things aren't all bad.

Since we're loving absolutes in this thread I'll go with the obvious.

FACT: Tigers are beating themselves.

Short of self mutilation I can't imagine a bigger meltdown. Maybe we should contact the Mets about this?

My bad, the 3rd base overthrow didn't matter much in game 3, unless you count demoralization.

Who thinks Weaver will deliver the Championship in St. Louis tonight?

I am thrilled we even have the chance to take this thing at home. Can you even imagine how things will be downtown. Overturning Cars, Rioting, hitting old ladies and burning down gas stations and buildings. It will be a blast!

Oh...wait....that's how Detroilet celebrates...

I as well like our chances to get this done. 100MPH looks impressive on the gun but it may as well be a joke if they can't find the zone with it.

Tigers started the post-season as underdogs that people thought would get nowhere. When they were 1 game down to the Yankees in the Division Series they were probably written off, but then to win 8 straight they suddenly moved into favorite position, I guess now they're just caving in to the pressure.

Each team represents opposite side of the "should you go with vets or kids" decision facing managers. Detroits youngsters have made some "inexperienced player" mistakes (Rodney, Zamaya), while Wainwright, Kinney have grown up in this playoff run.

Thank God it's over already.

Congrats, Cards fans. Enjoy it. Many of you may not see another one in your lifetimes.

I gotta admit, I didn't expect this at all. Congrats to the Cards on a World Series winner. I was hoping they would take down the juggernaut Tigers, and by golly they did it.
