Watch Live Streaming NHL Games Online for FREE

Postby cprice12 » Thu Oct 18, 2007 12:12 am

Since Charter is screwing many of us over, here is a way to watch NHL games online. (thanks _Gassoff)

Here's how...

1) Download the full version of the Sopcast player here:
http://www.sopcast.com/download/

2) Choose a game from the list of NHL games at this site: STREAMING NHL GAMES LINK

3) Choose the feed you want to watch on the next page. Your player should open up automatically.

4) Enjoy.

NOTE: You may need to install VLC to view some streams. For those streams that require VLC, read this:
Sopcast/VLC note:
All streams on Sopcast can be viewed with VLC, though for a select few streams this is mandatory. Additionally, sometimes VLC can stream a few seconds or more ahead of what shows up in Sopcast itself, which can help reduce your lag between the stream's source and when you watch it.

To use VLC, download VLC at http://www.videolan.org and install it , then start the Sopcast stream and let it buffer. Then open VLC, go to Open Network Stream, select HTTP option, and type in 127.0.0.1:8902 (if not working, try port 8912). You MUST leave Sopcast running; closing Sopcast closes the stream. If the stream gives sound in both VLC and Sopcast, mute the sound on Sopcast, or hit the refresh button so the Sopcast screen goes blank, but the VLC screen stays intact.

Or try this: http://forum.myp2p.eu/viewtopic.php?id=22114

This worked for me when I was having trouble getting a stream to buffer fully and play.
In the Myp2p.eu forums daily NHL streaming thread: http://forum.myp2p.eu/viewforum.php?id=1338
They will tell you which streams require VLC.

I have Sunday Ticket at home, but I've also used this to watch Rams games. I've found the results to be so-so...maybe I'm not doing something right.

Make sure you are checking the channels at the bottom that say "have had NHL programming."

So far, I've been able to find every game I wanted to watch, but I've only been doing this for a week or so.

Well, I was streaming ESPN late last night using that player and that site.
So, it works.
You just need to be patient when it is first starting up. You may have a handful of seconds where there is sound but no picture, or vice versa. But it seems to correct itself after a few moments.

I was going to embed the channel list in this thread, so people could just click on the games right here...but I was reading on that site that doing that would use our bandwidth...which I'm not so sure about. That doesn't make sense.

I watched Anaheim beat Nashville last night. It works.

At the end of last season I was watching QMJHL, WHL, and OHL via sopcast, but I can't remember where I found the streams, if they were at myp2p, or elsewhere.

Well..the site and player work just fine.
I watched the Detroit - San Jose game tonight using that site...and I gotta say, it was nice.
I mean, the quality wasn't as good as mlb.tv...but it was pretty damn good for being free...and not choppy at all.

Oh, and if you don't want to watch it in their player's window, which is kind of small...you can click the icon in the bottom right of their player, which opens it up in Windows Media player.

If you don't have NHL Center Ice...you guys need to try this out.

I don't think so. But they have a Linux version...which I found odd.

Allegedly there's a way to stream Sopcast to XBMC. (Xbox Media Center - a program you install on a modded Xbox, that streams *gasp* media from a pc, the internet, runs emulators, etc.). Appearantly I don't have it configured correctly, but it's supposed to work somehow.

If any of you guys A) have media on your pc you'd want to throw to your living room, and B) have an old Xbox laying around, it's worth the effort to get XBMC up and running. I'll be spending the weekend trying to resolve my issues with streaming Sopcast- the allure of being able to get HNIC on my tv, even if its pixelated as hell, is consuming.
