Thanks Bernie!

As for my prediction...

I'm with most of you guys...if we can actually put one in the net this time, that'd be great. Leclaire has killed us already this season.

That being said, I think the Blues will ride the momentum from the other night and squeak out a 3-2 win, in OT.

Stempy will score tonight...just you watch.

:( I hope I am very, very wrong.
Yeah, but when they dedicated the street to Brett Hull they snapped a losing skid against the Preds and won 1-0 on a nifty goal from Guerin.

Night before Mardi Gras... I remember... I think...

Translation:
Since they are further bestowing an honor upon MacInnis it is not like Brett Hull night but instead more like the time they bestowed an honor on Hull and the Blues ended a losing streak to a recent expansion team.

In that manner of thinking the BLUES will beat the bluejackets, 3-2 because Brad Boyes and Paul Kariya reconnect. Because Perron gets them some space by playing a heck of a game and spreading out the bj's defensive duties.

And because they score more goals and because well... you know... time are changing.

Sounds good to me.
Uhhhhh....what?
They do have a hot goaltender. They also scored 6 more goals than we have, and if you score more goals, you probably will win. (As long as you have a hot goaltender that is.)
Sounds like you want the jackets to win. I bet you have a big Rick Nash bobblehead on your desk.

Actually, its a Pascal Leclaire. It does kinda look like Mr. Peepers and some kinda troll had a kid :?

That was probably due to me being in the tip-top of Savvis more than the team being inspired about Al's number being retired.

My prediction for the game tonight - once again, I will not be able to get a good KMOX signal while on the road.

JR wrote:The Blues had four goals in the second period against Detroit Tuesday. They would like to score just one against Columbus this season. They’ve been shut out twice by goaltender Pascal Leclaire and haven’t scored a goal against the Blue Jackets since last March.

“They play a good team defense,” Brad Boyes said. “They’ve got the forwards that come back hard, they clog up the middle of the ice pretty well. They don’t give you too many second chances. We’ve got to start going right down the middle, going to the net and getting the second chances that are there. Again, the first couple of games we played against them, they’re clearing them away pretty well on us.”

The Blues had 36 shots in their first loss at Columbus on Oct. 25 and 21 shots in the second loss on Nov. 4

“I think we just need to get more pucks on net,” Jay McClement said. ”They played well against us and we haven’t had a full game yet against them. We’ve had some good periods here and there. We’ve got to try and get that out of our heads . . .that we haven’t scored against them. We just have to play like we played the other night against Detroit and get pucks to the net. We haven’t logged a lot of puck time in Columbus’ zone, so we’ve got to try and change that.”

Leclaire remains first in the NHL in shutouts with five. He’s third in goals-against average (1.59) and fourth in save percentage (.940).

“Leclaire has played well,” Boyes said. “That’s another thing . . we’ve got to get to him. Again, though, he’s making the first saves. It’s about getting the second chances. A lot of goals are just sitting there . . . scrambles . . . we’ve got to get into those areas.”

In practice this week, the Blues have worked on funneling their offense in front of the goaltender and getting second and third attempts.

“I think in terms of generating offense against Columbus, there’s no secret,” Andy Murray said. ”Their defense has played pretty solid, kept our second and third guys away from the net in terms of creating rebound opportunities. We need to be stronger, we need to win the one-on-one confrontations and battle them in front of the net. The other thing that you have against any goaltender, if he can’t see the puck, it’s tough to stop it. We’ve got to make sure that we’ve got bodies parked in front of him, taking away his sightlines.”

This morning Murray was still deciding which forwards would play tonight. This much is fact:

Kariya-Tkachuk-Boyes

Stempniak-Weight-Perron

Stempniak said he felt great playing with Weight and Perron Tuesday.

“It’s good . . . they’re two offensive guys and they’ve been playing well,” he said. “I think right now, a change of scenery is probably pretty good for both Jay (McClement) and I. I’m just trying to be focused on being stronger on the puck, just getting to the front of the net more. A lot of that just hinges on how I play and not other people.”

Murray liked Mike Johnson’s game against Detroit.

“I thought Mike was much more involved than the previous four games he’s played,” Murray said. “I thought he was engaged in the game. He was involved physically and skated well.”

Mike Johnson: “I got a little more involved physically, around the puck more. For me to be successful, I’ve got to skate and if I’m not skating, everything else falls by the wayside. When I am, everything else comes together. If he said I did a good job, it was probably because I was skating. That was the first time I played in four weeks or whatever. I know there’s other aspects of my game that I can bring to the table. Hopefully as I continue to play a little more often, and get a little more comfortable, those things will come out.”

Johnson, though, might not because in the lineup tonight. Jody Shelley is now a regular in the Columbus lineup, and so Murray will likely put D.J. King back in.

This is what you could see tonight if King plays:

Rucinsky-McClement-Mayers

King-Ryan Johnson-Hinote

Defensive pairings:

Jackman-Johnson

Brewer-Salvador

Wagner-Backman

Quick note: On that long Wagner pass to Perron Tuesday, setting up the goal, Wagner said Perron gave him the old “Whoo-hoo” on the ice so that he could see he was about to split the defenders.

Jay McKee is a healthy scratch for the second straight game. Murray wants to see better puck skills from McKee, moving the puck out of the zone especially. I asked Murray if the defensemen played so well Tuesday against Detroit that it was too difficult to put McKee back in tonight.

“I think there were players that didn’t play as well as they needed to play,” Murray said. “But I don’t have a strong enough reason to take guys out. I talked to Jay about that this morning. What I told Jay this morning is how much I appreciated his professionalism, how hard he’s worked in practice the last few days, how he’s spent extra time watching video. I know he isn’t pleased. I wanted to let him know how I felt about how he was conducting himself. I said, ‘That doesn’t make you feel any better, but it makes me feel better to be able to tell you that.’”

McKee is very disappointed. “It wasn’t something that I was expecting. It’s tough to accept. I know I haven’t played the best hockey that I can play, but I mentioned to Andy that I didn’t feel that my play warranted being out of the lineup. He’s expressed to me that we have eight healthy defensemen and he wants to be fair to everybody. He’s the coach, that’s his decision, and I’ll just do my job and work hard.”

I asked J.D. about the rumor of the Blues sending McKee back to Buffalo for Maxim Afinogenov and he said: “Absolute fabrication.”

The Blues may not be working on a trade at this time, but Murray did say something interesting after Thursday’s practice that caught the ear of some.

Murray said: “Larry Pleau and John Davidson and I had some serious discussions about our team and where we’re going . . . that type of thing.”

When asked to elaborate, Murray said: “John and Larry and Al and myself, we have serious discussions every day. We’re always talking about how we can improve the team. In most cases, it’s how we maximize the personnel that we already have, rather than looking outside for changes. We’re looking at the players we’ve got, what can we do to make them better, what can they do to support us . . . so it’s more a discussion of how we deal with the team we’ve got.”

Miscellaneous: David Backes’ knee is healing nicely and he should be back in about two weeks . . . Murray was asked if he told Perron to pack his bags for Nashville tomorrow (which would be Perrons’ 10th game). Murray laughed and said “No, but go ahead and say you heard that. Start the rumor.” Perron will be with the team in Nashville and will stay with the Blues.

I tried to open up this thread at work and it said that the maximum number of forbidden words had been detected, so the thread was blocked... after 1 stinking post! That vulgarity filter business is getting a bit loonie, it's not like I'm looking up porn during my free periods.
