Almost fell off my seat when I heard this on TSN. So far everyone is saying it is a 1 for 1, but I guess Eklund has some other info?

I doubt that Ek even knew who Birner was before this report.

McDonald is tough to judge, as an NHL'er the most points he ever had was 30 until the lockout, when he went to Germany and, then he came back a seemingly new player. Perhaps it was the the new rules, perhaps it was the currywurst, who knows.

Miklasz confirms it is Weight, Birner, and a 7th round pick for McDonald.

Confirmed by J.R. also..

would this be the phantom 7th rounder acquired for Cash pending Cash actually having the talent, maturity and selflessness to crack an NHL lineup this year?

As a footnote im not saying it was a bad trade, in fact I hope John Davidson sent some KY Jelly Burkes way, I hear it helps.

The Blues just got a lot faster. Except when they're skating backwards... but well...

I'm trying to figure next seasons team now without someone replacing Weight because McDonald would replace Weight... so Oshie is slated to replace Rucinsky and Berglund is slated to replace one of the Johnsons?

i'm sorry guys. i'm still trying to figure this one out. seems like we gave up more than we should have for a guy with 16 points on the year.

I'd be surprised if the Blues had 2 rookie forwards make the team in one year.

Berglund would be at best a long shot to make the Blues next year, at least out of camp.

Andy McDonald had a helluva year last year. He's fast and he led the Ducks in goals in the playoffs last year with the Ducks (I think). Weight is teh Dug Waitzz and all but they have much more upside in McDonald. I'm not worried about losing Birner either.

The only thing that worries me is how people are going to respond when AM could mean two different people.

I like this trade. Me happy.

Davidson on KMOX spoke frankly: Whether he retires or not, Weight would not be on this team next year.

Davidson eluded to the fact that Berglund nor Eller may be ready to step in right away next season. Davidson further added, with the prices of older free-agent centers, and the years they demand (3-5 years), McDonald is a bridge until prospects are ready and can “develop properly.”

Now...can we dump a certain Czech...

What they got was a center who's a decent amount younger than Weight. Was Birner ever going to crack the NHL lineup? I suppose maybe Berglund won't be on the team next year, though I was hoping. I don't see anything wrong with having 2 rookie forwards on the roster at the same time, but I guess Murray doesn't give a crap about his talented kids nowm so why would he give a crap about 2 at the same time?

Maybe McDonald will put up more pointage than Weight. He has had a few good seasons in a row.

Wow, very nice trade. Weight was gonna be gone next year, Birner would've had to make the team past Berglund, Eller, Lemtyugov, Linglet, and all the other forward prospects in order to even make the team, let alone make an impact on the team. And the 7th is basically nothing. Cap hit of 3.33 million, so he's fairly cheap for his production(think Paul Kariya's numbers but at half the price).

Low risk high-reward trade. We now have 2 legit scoring line centers.

Kariya Tkachuk Boyes
Rucinsky A-Mac Perron
Backes J-Mac Stempniak
Whoever RJ Mayers

I was on the bus from Hammerstones to the game last night and a guy in the back was talking about how he heard, from a source who told him about the Kariya signing before it happened, that the Blues were about to make a trade to get a forward they've had their eye on. I couldnt make up my mind if that was just more Blues trade dribble or if a trade was actually going to happen.

Guess I have my answer.
