Shortwave Radio

Post by Ruutu15 »

I'm about to get a new Shortwave, and it made me curious as to whether or not any of you have ever listened. It's pretty cool listening to the BBC, Voice of America, Radio Nederlands, Numbers Stations, and other random things from varying corners of the world.

I do have a decent amount of podcasts that I subscribe to, usually for listening in the car. There's still something about actually tuning in a frequency from afar that makes it better, IMO. You tune the dial, and there's really no telling what you're going to get. There's a lot of stuff you can hear over air that isn't available in podcast form.

Which is why you should create podcasts of some of the shortwave stuff you hear.

That's a good idea, actually. I think a lot of people are unaware of the types of things that are out there on the World Band. There's still Soviet propaganda being beamed out there from somewhere in the former Soviet Union. The Czech Republic has a 'numbers station' that still gives number codes to former Czechoslovakian operatives. North Korea has the 'Voice of Korea', where you can hear about how Kim Jung-Il shot 4 hole-in-ones while playing golf today on an 8 hole course.
