Rivermen bring back Schwarz from Alaska

Post by majikle »

The Rivermen sent goaltender Derek Gustafson down to ECHL Alaska after Sunday's Ace's game, and called up goaltender Marek Schwarz. Merek won all 6 of his games with the Aces ....the last 2 in a shoot out.

Idaho. W 5-3
Stockton, W 5-3
Stockton, W 3-1
Las Vegas, W 4-3
Las Vegas, W 2-1 (SO)
Las Vegas, W 4-3 (SO)

I am still uncomfortable with the fact that in 4 of those games the Aces still needed 4 goals to win.

In February the Rivermen go 1-8-1 and slide from 2nd in the West Division (three points out of first) to 4th.....up only 1 point over Milwaukee, Quad City and Houston. (Toivonen winning only one game after being sent down in a 4-3 shootout vs San Antonio)

So who is coming back as the Rivermen #1? Schwarz....6 wins...but at the ECHL level? Or Becks....with 26 minutes in the same time span ...but with the Blues?

Schwarz is 2-0 with a 2.00 and save over 91% in the first two games back since recall.
CBT started friday and he got burned for 4 goals.
Marek then started back-to-back and won both.
I hope he plays in both when i travel to Peoria the first weekend in April to see a few games.

UPDATED MAREK SCHWARZ STATS!!!

Won his 3rd in a row
2-1 over Quad City
stopped 22-23 shots
after demotion.....
ECHL STATS 6-0 2.00 GAA .911 save %
after promotion
AHL STATS 3-0 1.66 GAA .940 save %

Well it looks to me that the kid is on a 9-0 run in his last 9 games.
I really hope this is the sign of a turnaround for the better.
Peoria will go far in the playoffs if he keeps those numbers up.
