Series Thread: Cards @ Rockies

Post by dmiles2186 »

Monday: Piniero (2-2, 3.75 ERA) vs. Jiminez (1-2, 5.90 ERA), 7:35 PM
Tuesday: Looper (4-1, 3.86) vs. Redman (2-2, 6.99), 7:35 PM
Wednesday: Wainwright (3-1, 2.60) vs. Francis (0-3, 5.26), 7:35 PM
Thursday: Lohse (3-1, 3.79) vs. De La Rosa (0-1, 20.25), 2:05 PM

Very winnable series, but we're on the road so hopefully that doesn't change the way we've been playing.

By the way, Redman, Francis, and De La Rosa are all lefties, so they've got 'em lined up for us. But this Cardinals lineup hasn't been as disastrous against lefties as in recent years.

I think the lefties just mean we'll see less Chris Duncan and Adam Kennedy. Isturis did better than normal last night after the error, but I still don't understand why Ryan doesn't see more time. A switch hitter isn't that great if he only manages .200 from either side.

Glaus hits a LOT better on the road. I expect him to launch a couple out this trip.

Holy holy holy holy holy crap! What a play by Pujols to take the lead!

He may have been out, but either way, that makes up for the play in the 8th in which Yadi scored adn was called out.

I didn't get to see it as I was listening to Rooney and Shannon on the radio.
They said Pujols was safe...barely. The ump got the call right...finally....I guess 2nd time is a charm.

Cubs lost tonight...we're 2.5 games up.

He was. I just couldn't believe he was turning and going home. I still can't get over that play. Last night's game was probably one of the best on the young season. Back and forth action, a few blown calls, and El Hombre scoring from second on an infield chopper. Insane.

The only thing killing me about last night is once again - Duncan's fielding. If Duncan actually manages not to turn singles into doubles by letting the ball go between is legs on back-to-back plays, Pineiro might have been able so stay in the game a little longer and not put so much stress on the pen. If Duncan is gonna screw up fielding, he'd better darn well be hitting - not going 0-4, striking out twice, and leaving 3 runners on base.

Done with the rant.

The rest of the team was awesome.

It looks like I'll be going to tomorrow night's game for free thanks to a sales rep.

Look for me on TV, I'll be in the red Cardinals t-shirt (along with about 1/2 the stadium)

Duncan sucks.
Aside from the occasional good game at the plate where he gets a couple hits, he is awful.

He needs to go. Maybe someone would want him as a 1st baseman.

It's not like the Cardinals are "platooning" outfielders due to a surplus of them. Free Ryan Ludwick.

What a throw by Ankiel in the first to double up Taveras on what should've been an easy sacrifice to advance Taveras.

And can someone please get Molina to quit swinging at first pitches when there are two runners on, one out or less, and facing a struggling pitcher??

Tonight is the kinda game the Cardinals have been guilty of letting up a little on. See the Reds game against Arroyo as an example. Wainwright starting for the Cards against the winless Francis with the 5+ ERA.

Arroyo had a horrendous ERA going into the matchup on 4/28. Wellemeyer had been pitching well. The result, the Cardinals struggled to generate runs against a struggling pitcher and actually helped Arroyo lower his ERA. Not too many teams have allowed that to happen for Bronson. It was 8+, dropped to 6+ following the Cardinals game, and promptly went back to 8+ after his last outing. Hopefully the 'Birds won't be looking at this game as an "easy win" given what should be a difference making pitching matchup.

This should also be another night to rest the bullpen with as many innings as Wainwright has been able to go.
