Series Thread: Tampa Bay Rays @ Cardinals (5/16-5/18)

Post by BoxCar »

Tonight:
Looper(5-2) vs Sonnanstine(5-1)

Then,
Wainwright(3-2) vs Garza(2-1)
Lohse(3-2) vs Jackson(2-3)

Lohse's start is in question due to a sore throwing shoulder. Mike Parisi would replace him in the rotation for his Sunday start.

Tonight's Matchup:
Scouting Report:
Rays: Sonnanstine had picked up wins in four consecutive starts prior to Sunday's outing against the Angels, when he allowed five runs on eight hits while walking two to take a no-decision. Sonnanstine's best pitch is the slider, but in order for him to pitch well, he needs to locate his fastball to set up the vast array of pitches he throws from all different angles. He is 3-0 with a 4.05 ERA in three road starts this season. This will be his first career start against the Cardinals.

Cardinals: Looper skipped his side session after working 8 1/3 innings in the thin Colorado air the start before, but he said he felt physically fine when he allowed four runs in six innings against Milwaukee. He struggled keeping the ball down, and Ryan Braun took advantage by smacking two home runs in the Cardinals' 5-3 loss. Looper only walked one and hit another batter -- but both of those scored in the first inning to spot the Brewers an early lead.

'Tampa Bay Rays' sounds retarded. And the fact that they changed their name to appease bible thumpers is even more retarded.

In fairness if you're a business in Florida (or anywhere in the south) and you've pissed off the bible-thumper demographic then good luck making a buck.

Izzy to the DL with a hand injury and Chris Perez called up. He's available to pitch tonight. His fastball has been clocked at 98. :okman:

Thank God.

If we had a normal closer who maybe had only blown a couple saves this year instead of the six blown saves that Izzy has...we'd be in 1st place.

A big, ironic amen to that.

Christian crazies...the world would be better off without them.
What's stupid is that they spend their life thumping for the Lord, but in doing so they do a lot of non-Chiristian things. Doesn't make sense.
And I'm not talking about your average everyday Christian, I'm talking about the psychos that can't make a single decision in life without thinking WWJD and condemning others, getting on their soapbox, etc.... for not thinking and believing the way they do.

Examples...
In the movie, "Their Will Be Blood"...the reverend came out and said, "God doesn't save stupid people." Some people really feel that way.
Or the idiots who held up the signs in protest of gay marriage that read, "God hates fags".... Hmmm...not really very Christians things to say in my book.

They're more stupid and hypocritical than they are Christian.

I had awesome seats last night. Too bad the crowd was more entertaining than the game.

My friend/colleague took a picture of the NY Daily News standings showing the Rays in 1st place and the Yankees in last place. How much more classic can things get? Unreal, Tampa Bay in 1st at the quarter post.

Talented team they have. I don't particularly care for the Rays, but when David Price gets into town and when Longoria starts hitting the way he's supposed to, that's going to be the team to beat in the AL. What skill they have!

If the Rays were in St. Louis, Chicago, New York, Boston, or LA, they would be talked about constantly by all the networks, etc. Carl Crawford is one of my favorite players in the game. Now, if they can just get rid of that atrocious ballpark for something a little easier on the eyes, they'll no longer be a punchline like they have for the first 10 years of their existence.

Gotta love Lohse's "give up 2 double every inning" strategy. :?

It may not be pretty, but it worked. Didn't see the game today, but a win is a win, with the hitting coming through when it mattered and the bullpen not giving up 3+ runs after the 6th inning.

From what I've read, it sounds like Bernie is right and Perez needs to be the closer now, not later.
