Series Thread: Pond Scum @ Cardinals

Post by theohall »

Monday, June 30: John Maine, RHP (8-5, 3.73) @ Kyle Lohse, RHP (9-2, 3.94), 6:05 PM
Tuesday, July 1: Tony Armas, RHP (0-0, -.--) @ Todd Wellemeyer, RHP (7-2, 3.46), 7:15 PM
Wednesday, July 2: Pedro Martinez, RHP (2-2, 7.12) @ Mitchell Boggs, RHP (3-0, 4.37), 7:15 PM
Thursday, July 3: Mike Pelfrey, RHP (5-6, 4.47) @ Joel Pineiro, RHP (2-3, 4.33), 7:15 PM

Should be an interesting series. Still gonna guess it's a 2-2 split, like almost all the the Cards 4 game series this season. Hoping for a a 3-1 if not better, though.

Well that's one win. :okman:

I didn't watch the game, but it was nice to see Mulder get an inning in and Lohse gets win #10.

Lohse was outstanding tonight. He only had one bad inning, the 6th, but the run surrendered wound up being unearned thanks to a throwing error. Mulder looked real good. Villone was the same.

Basically, the Cards offense continued what it did last night. The scored at least one run in 5 straight innings thanks to weak pitching and horrible fielding by the Mets. And L'il Dunc actually hit a HR which barely cleared the RF wall right at the foul pole.

I continue to be impressed by this team. Aaron Miles has been on fire lately. He has been one of the best utility players the Cardinals have had in awhile. The man, in my opinion, is very underrated (after all, he scored the two runs on the hits that arguably won David Eckstein the World Series MVP in '06), and he just shows up every day and does his job whether he's coming off the bench to hit or is getting plugged in there every day. Good to see him have a 3 hit night last night.

And what can you say about Mulder? I'm extremely happy for the guy.

Wellemeyer just didn't have it in game #2 of this series. And the bats seemed to go cold after the 4th inning.
It's a shame...they got off to such a good start at the plate.

And the Giants only need three more outs in their game vs. the Cubs. They are up on the Cubs 2-0 in the bottom of the 8th in SF.

Bad night for Wellemeyer. I'm convinced he was outdone by video coaching. Too many times, Mets were rocking his low "out" pitches.

This was a steal. Perez, McClellan, and Franklin looked good.

Mulder pretty much stunk up the joint. The wet field slowed down the OF so at least 3 of the "hits" the Mets got probably would've been outs when guys were diving at balls and missing by inches. Pineiro finally had an off-night after basically a month of pitching great and still not getting a win. The 'pen still has the surrendering the inherited runner problem as it happened twice last night. Duncan hits a HR - that as OS mentioned - was on a particularly ugly swing. Really thought Ankiel had the HR before Glaus AB.

But heck - a win is a win.

(As to Duncan - as much as most were riding the guy, me included - these past two series he has done what we expect of him 2 HRs, a double, RBI in 4 of 5 games. That's what he's supposed to do.)

Splitting the 4 games vs. the pond scum blows. Boggs seemed lost on the mound tonight. He had trouble fielding his position tonight along with throwing strikes. Of course after a few innings, I didn't waste my time watching because our boys didn't seem to have 'IT'.

Boggs sucked.
Cubs lost.
Still 2 1/2 games out.

Bring on the Cubs.

Yep - Boggs had a horrible game. On top of that, every time he attempted to field a ball and just missed - it went AWAY from the guy who could field it. Meanwhile, every time the Mets deflected ground balls, they went right TO the guy who could still field it and make a play. Just wasn't the Cardinals night.

Not surprised they split yet another 4 game series:
SF 2-2
COL 2-2
MIL 1-3
PIT 2-2
NYM 2-2

It seems to be a foregone conclusion the Cards will not win more than 2 games in a 4 games series this regular season. That doesn't bode well for a team vying for a playoff spot.
