Caught the last few innings of this one.
Nice win.
And a heck of a job by McClellan pitching around Ankiel's error that put Ramirez at 3rd with no outs in the 8th.

And Perez looked good in picking up the save.

Duncan says that Perez isn't ready to be handed the closer job. How in the hell isn't he ready to at least be given a chance at the job? That doesn't make any sense to me.
It's almost like they are ignoring what he is doing, and concentrating too much on his lack of experience and assuming he will fail.
He's the only guy in the bullpen that hasn't completely imploded, and he has the best arm.
Not giving him a chance just because of his lack of experience, is throwing the season away if you ask me.
Izzy sucks...Franklin has blown a ton of saves...McClellan has been inconsistent as the closer...
I think LaRussa and Duncan are out of options. They have to let Perez close games for a while.

Rant over....for now.

It's takes talent to lose a game where you were up 3-0 with two men on and no outs in the first inning.

This has been a common occurrance this year with the Cardinals.
We've been up in the 1st or 2nd inning in a lot of games, and then scored nothing the rest of the game and ended up barely losing.

So what you're saying is.. We scored less runs than the team that won?

This is a .500 team that is nothing special. If they make the playofs they'll be swept in the NLDS anyways.

I wanna agree with you, but if thise team makes the playoffs(I don't think we have a shot), then they would have to do something special to pull it off. After that, anything can happen(2006).

the announcers were talking about the normal crap today and i heard something that was kind of interesting...
we have 27 blown saves
Blown Saves in the NL
man, if we had a third of those back, we would be even with the cubs...
kinda pisses me off

How in the hell did you get that from what I said?
What I am saying is, we have jumped out to a quick lead in a lot of games, and not built on that lead. At least in enough games for me to notice anyway.

Well that's just ridiculous.
This team is a consistent closer away from having the best record in the National League.
And this team is not a .500 team...they are 11 games over .500 which is the 3rd best record in the National League (and they'd be in first place in the East and West), and they are leading against the Marlins as I type this.

FYI, if they did grab the Wild Card, and if the Cubs finish with the best record in the NL, the Cardinals wouldn't play the Cubs in the NLDS. They would play the division winner with the 2nd best record...which right now, is the Mets, whom the Cardinals currently have a better record than they do. So they would catch a break in the NLDS...so predicting they would get swept in that series, is quite pessimistic...especially if they have Carpenter, Wainright going in games 1 & 2.

I think with Perez finally getting chances to close games now, and with Wainright coming back next week(?) and either he or another starter moving to the bullpen, the bullpen is all of a sudden much better.

I'm not saying they are definitely going to make the playoffs, but they're right there and if Milwaukee slips up at all, I think they could easily get in. If they win tonight, they're only three games out of the WC, in probably the best division in baseball.

We did exactly what we needed to do. However, we could have easily got the sweep.
