Should we remove the political forum?

It'll just spill over into the OT board if you get rid of it.

I voted 'Yes' to get rid of it only because I fundamentally do not agree that there is a place for politics on this forum that is about Blues Hockey. For instance, at work there are two things I/we do not talk about: (a) Sex, (b) Politics. I do not see a Sex Forum on here. I fully admit that from time to time I drop in there and give my two cents, but I wouldn't miss it.

If you want to talk politics there are unfathomable amount of places on the internet to go. One close place is the STLToday.com Current Affairs forum. Unfortunately for some posters, their discourse is too rash for such an environment, and banning and/or discipline would come too swiftly for their tastes. The Political Forum at LGB is a repository of toxic waste, insults and constant infighting that results in those topics bleeding into the OT and Blues forum (ie the TV Thread example). The level of tolerance there is pretty impressive compared to other forums.

The problem with getting rid of it is the amount of moderation that would have to go on to filter political topics and repeat offenders off the board, through thread deletion, comment deletion and poster suspension and potentially banning. The maintenance required could be potentially a daunting task considering the level of participation that forum gets.

But ultimately people only go there on their own accord. Maybe there should be a $5 / month subscription to have access to the political forum.

If people don't want to read it, they don't have to go on there. if you want a hard and fast rule that no political discussion should occur in other forums then make the rule and be done with it. Or you could just ban people who post jokes in other forums that happen to be about politics...with no warning. That's always fresh.

Just ban everybody that has ever disagreed with me. That will wipe out 80% of this board and you can relax then.

In the Guidelines forum:

14. Any posts made that are deemed to vary too far from the thread topic or are deemed to be an attempt to hijack a thread, may be deleted without warning in an attempt to keep the thread on it's original topic.
Repeated violations of this policy may result in warnings, a suspension or a ban. For any forum to retain it's dignity, threads need to remain somewhat on topic...especially in the hockey forum.

Political talk doesn't belong in the hockey forum, and vice versa. That's considered off topic.
Again, that is why we have different forums.

Well, I'm telling you...when there is forum reserved for specific things, like politics, those specific things need to stay in that specific forum.
Consider it an explicit rule if you want to.

And is it implied? No. Message board are notorious for off topic stuff. some mods/admins don't care at all. others do. just trying to get a clarification because I mod other boards and it's anything goes and people like it that way.

Well, it's about 50/50...so we'll keep the political forum.
But the political talk needs to stay in that forum...if people are bringing political talk outside of the Politics forum, those posts will either be removed or the thread will be locked. Repeat offenders may be suspended from the site for a few days as well.
