This is kind of what I was saying. When Brewer is paired with a good defensive defenseman who can make up for Brewers defensive lapses, this makes Brewer better. Does it have to do with it being someone Brewer is comfortable with? Maybe but I think it utimately comes down to someone who can make up for his mistakes.

Shouldn't a #1 defenseman make his partner better not his partner make him better?

So.. What you are saying is Brewer sucks and is a #3 defenseman at best.. Thanks for clearing that up.

Hmm...No...You see....were I to say that, I'd have typed it.

If Brewer sucked, by definition, he couldn't be a 2nd pairing NHL defensemen I don't think.

Do you?

Well he sucks and he is a 1st pairing NHL defenseman, so yeah, I would say it is possible.

Interesting.

So would you say that the players in say, the AHL are horrific?

What about Ian Cole?

If Brewer sucks and is in the NHL, Cole isn't even good enough to suck in the NHL yet, what does that make him?

I'd say your premise is flawed.

Point is if he can be a top pair D, ANYONE can if they are paired with the right guy. MacInnis was on the second pairing. Does this mean Reardon was better than 2?
