Yeah, both Bouwmeester and Leopold are UFAs as of July 1st, so both teams still have to try and sign them. Calgary just has exclusive rights during the last remaining days to make him an offer.

I am sure Bouwmeester will sign with Calgary, a legit play off contender in a good market, as long as Calgary is willing to pay.

For Bouwmeester, he's got the Flames by the balls. Zero past loyalty to the organization with the Flames dependent on getting him signed. Great situation for him to rack up that paycheck.

A player would have to be stupid to sign with a team as open season approaches. No agent would tell him to sign anything. The only thing it does is allow him to 'think' about playing for Calgary and listen to their offer. Really a waste of a 3rd rounder if JBo was planning on signing there anyway. Funniest scenario would be him re-signing with the Panthers on July 1st!

Probably, but he wasn't gonna go anywhere for anything less, someone was gonna pay it. Turns out that team was Calgary.

How often has this trading UFAs after the season thing occurred? Seems silly. Giving up a pick almost makes it absurd.

WOW.

$6.68 million- damn. He had the Flames by the balls though, if they weren't going to pay him what he wanted he could go somewhere else to get the same thing. I think Sutter knew that going in though, I doubt he would acquire him not knowing Bouwmeester would jack up the price.

If they wouldn't sign him to it, someone else would have.
