He's not holding out, he's simply not signing his offer sheet to see if anyone wants to top it.
Like any one of you wouldn't listen to offers if someone came along and offered you 25% more than you could be making.
It's beyond immaterial what any of you think he's worth or whether or not you think he's 'earned' his payday. The market sets his value and if somebody wants to pay im more than the Blues, he'd be a fool not to at least listen.
It amazes me how personal make his decision while still somehow completely removing yourself from his shoes.

It could always be worse, I could be a Cubs fan. (But please, if you could spare me the parallels between the respective organizations, I'd really appreciate it).

From everything that's been published he's asking for a lot more than a 25% raise. JR makes it sound like he's asking for 1.5 or 2 mil a season. Which is extremely high by any standards for a guy with less than 100 NHL games under his belt.
I understand it from a financial perspective. But from a professinal perspective, it shines a bad light on him. You typically don't want to piss your employer off in situations like this where you're taking a risk. He hasn't done enough to earn being in this position IMO

That's why they're being cautious about handing out any UFA contracts this year. With the cap potentially dropping again next season, who knows how much space it's gunna take to sign those guys. I mean you can't hold on to everyone. But there's a certain core that needs to remain intact and those 4 are def the core...
You will likely never see the Blues spend to the cap unless it's on keeping our own players.

He's not asking for anything at this point. He's simply saying "this is what it will cost you for me to not listen to offers."
I'd absolutely set that bar pretty high if I were in his shoes.
For that matter, we don't even know if he's made an offer or if he's simply declined the STL offers in order to listen to others.

He didn't need to read this board to start thinking that, he just had to look around the locker room all the other defensemen.

Woywitka as a 6th defenseman was the least of our problems. He actually allowed fewer goals/minute played than any other defenseman. It was the guys playing 25 minutes a game and coughing up the puck to the other team that caused us problems. When Pronger and MacInnis were manning our top pairing, we had a hell of a lot worse on our bottom pairing than Woywitka. Sure, he's nothing to write home about, but he wasn't the problem either. It was the other clowns getting paid big money.
JR's Twitter: Still no deal between Blues/Polak. JD said Junland, Strachan, Cole are ready. Cole may not play at Notre Dame next year, instead join Blues.
Iam no JD but Junland is in no way ready for the NHL. Just as Polak did, Junland needs another season adjusting to the speed of the AHL. He does well on the offensive end but is very slow in the D zone. Cole and Petrangilo are better suited for the NHL now than Junland is. Strachan is basically replacing Woywitka.
Give Polak 750,00-900,00 for 1yr and then work out a 2-4yr deal if he performs this season. Why pay for potential?
