Blues exercise option on Andy Murray's additional year
The Blues signed Murray for 2010-11, avoiding this becoming a "lame duck season". It seems like an odd time to do that.
But, I think it is positive. It will remove the subconscious pressure to gain every regular season point possible, that would have Murray using aged veterans as much as possible in competitive situations, and trying to sit on small leads way too early in games.
It will allow Murray to use the long-term strategy to prepare the players best for the best team performance in the playoffs, rather than just trying to win or, worse yet, "not lose" each game.
Perhaps young players will get a little more ice time now, and aged veterans will get a little less, than if Murray were to have had "the axe over his head".

I don't care what they do with Murray's contract as long as his team plays a "Whole" season this year. None of this kicking ass for half a year and taking half of it off like the last two seasons. If we show a 10-20 game stretch of sucking, can his ass.

I don't think it's going to change his style at all. I think his goal is clear. Improve on last year. That's all anyone wants. Get into the playoffs... don't care where, and win a round. That's the minimum he needs to accomplish to keep his job.
Anything less and he should be gone.
Miss the playoffs and buh-bye. Out in round one again? Buh-bye.

I doubt that losing in the 2nd round will be an automatic firing with one year left on his contract. It will depend on how many wins they get in the regular season, which team they beat in round 1, and how The Blues look in doing that, who they lose to in the 2nd round, in how many games, and how they look doing it.
If they lose to Detroit in the second round in game 7 at Detroit (or a similar situation with San Jose, I'm not sure they'll fire Murray one year early. If Murray does things that JD doesn't like, - then I could see it.

I didn't say anything about the second round. I think getting to the second round should be this years goal. I think losing in the second would guarantee Murray another year.

I completely agree with this statement. Remember how everyone was all anti-Murray for awhile? Rightfully so, as he sucked a big one... but I like what he did the 2nd half...kodos wrote:I don't think it's going to change his style at all. I think his goal is clear. Improve on last year. If Blues get to the playoffs...great. If they get swept again, he's gone.

I pretty much agree that with all the young and even not so young talent no this team, a 1st round exit would probably cost Murray the job.
Apart from that, as long as he doesn't play Sydor, I don't mind him.
