Jay McClement - the new Craig Conroy?

Post by big d note »

Conroy was an excellent defensive center for us, and it sucked watching him score even more when put on a top line in Calgary. It seems like McClement has become a great replacement for him though. Similar size center, plays a great shut-down role, but it still a threat to score, and puts up similar numbers to Conroy when he was in St. Louis. Will he end up being as popular with the fans as Conroy was? I wouldn't doubt it, although he has to live in the shadow of Oshie, Perron, and other flashy young guns.

Great post.

IMO, Jay certainly could be every bit as good, but as you mentioned he'll never reach Conroy’s popularity simply because of so many other young studs (throw Backes and Berglund in your list as well)

Oh, and..... :detsucks:

I've heard rumors that McClement likes to date LGB'ers ex girlfriends...

I don't have a doubt in my mind that if he was given top line duties, he could put up a healthy number of points. He's very fundamentally sound with pretty much every aspect of his game. He works hard in the off-season and gives everything he has to this team. Great player.

His best year was early on when he, Backes and Stempniak were the pre-Kid-Line Kid Line. That was the year Stempy put up 27 goals, Jay had around 40 points, majority of assists. We've seen he can bury the puck in free space, and he plays a good, solid game in both ends. I agree completely. Plus, I think the guy is built for postseason glory. He could be the underrated guy that comes up big on a team that runs deep into the postseason, I really believe that's the type of guy he will evolve into.

Anybody who hates Jay McClement hates freedom.
