That's where everything is wrong. We stood around way too much. D-man were out of position constantly. We couldn't complete a pass. And we struggled greatly at sustaining pressure.

We play that exact game five more times and we’ll lose four of them in regulation.

Everyone one in attendance stated over and over in between each period how lucky we were to even be in this game let alone winning.

I know how hard it is to see blown assignments, standing around, and confused defensemen on TV, but what surprises me is how no one noticed the choppy play, poor passing, and lack of pressure.

As for our 5 worst games, I stated one of our ‘5 worst efforts’ and I truly believe that. There was as much standing around and floating as I’ve seen out of this team in weeks. I can’t say it was one of our worst ‘games’ because we converted on some chances, but the effort was not up to par at all.

It’s funny because this team struggled scoring last year two, so that should be no surprise. The lack of effort is quite concerning and IMO the difference between the second half run last year and our current circumstances.
Yeah, sorry...gotta disagree.
And you keep saying, "everyone in attendance"... a bit of an exaggeration, don't you think?
Maybe you should rephrase that to, "the half a dozen people that I talked to at the game".

And I'll say that 19 times out of 20, with less than a minute to go and if Zetterberg flips that exact same backhand in front, it doesn't go in off of Jackman's arm and we win the game.

They played well and were in position to win a game vs. the Wings with less than a minute to go...it was a flukey loss...I wouldn't get hung up on this one too much.

If anything, you should be upset at Murray for putting Jackman out there with a one goal lead with less than a minute to go. EJ should have been out there instead.

I guess to each their own opinion. But there was less effort on the ice Saturday night then just about every game I've attended this year.

You can't argue that we play well and were unlucky in games in which the puck doesn't go in and at the same time say we must have played well because we almost won.

IMO, there is a huge difference between ‘effort’ and ‘score’. Sure you hope one is the result of the other, but just as you can play a great game and loose, you can play poorly and almost win as well.

I believe results masking problems is what led us to this point. This team was one of the worst at scoring 5 on 5 last year but we won so no one worried much. Now everyone seems surprise that we have trouble scoring.

I don’ t mean to sound ungrateful for the point, I simply didn’t like the effort. I thought we were either standing around or chasing. We were seldom taking the play to them (of course all this dump and chase doesn’t help that). Our forwards were either dumping the puck in or standing around waiting on the defensive lineman to penetrate the zone. The fore-check was lackadaisical and late, and defensive responsibilities were blown left and right.

No it wasn’t one of those games were we couldn’t get out of our own way nor were the guys skating around with their heads down, they just weren’t moving their feet out there, and when we did have the puck on our stick we looked like we’d never handled one before.

But you are right. If they didn’t get that lucky goal…we would have gotten a lucky win.

I don’t mean that sarcastically. You need good wins, bad wins, and lucky wins.

There were some who called in after the game and said if we played like that every night we'd win it all, but they either drank too much or were attending their first game....maybe both.

That actually brings up a great point. I've been really disappointed in the lack of knowledgeable hockey fans (or even hockey fans period) at the home games.

I’m thrilled the Blues are selling all these tickets, I simply wish there were more hockey fans in attendance then a bunch of kids at a ‘social function’ or people simply taking free tickets and killing time until next baseball season.

WAIT FOR A STOPAGE IN PLAY BEFORE WALKING!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think I've said we played well but were unlucky many times this year. We've been pretty bad at times this year. I just don't think Saturday's game was one of those times.
IMO, there is a huge difference between ‘effort’ and ‘score’. Sure you hope one is the result of the other, but just as you can play a great game and loose, you can play poorly and almost win as well.
I've said this before, but effort doesn't mean anything to me. Just win.
Effort is not a nice consolation prize. If we're working our tails off and lose, I don't care that they worked hard. I'd rather they win and I don't care what the effort is in a win...they won. End of story.
I believe results masking problems is what led us to this point. This team was one of the worst at scoring 5 on 5 last year but we won so no one worried much. Now everyone seems surprise that we have trouble scoring.
5 on 5 scoring hasn't been a major problem. IMO, it's been the PP that is the most glaring problem when we lose.
PK and goaltending have been great.

Our PP numbers this season:
- Dead last in the entire league at 12.4%
- Only 11 PPG in 89 attempts this season.

Those are pathetic numbers and are undermining a lot of the good things this team is doing. If you can't score on the PP, you won't go on any long winning streaks and you'll lose a lot of close games...and that's what has happened to us so far this season.

The first period on Saturday was one of the best periods we've had all season. The 2nd and 3rd weren't as good, but again, hardly a horrible effort as you are implying.
And to be honest, rarely do I see a problem with overall effort. Sure, you'll have your Brewers and your Jackmans that don't seem to give it all they have every shift, but I don't think you can say that about most of the rest of the guys on most nights.
But you are right. If they didn’t get that lucky goal…we would have gotten a lucky win.
Lucky win?
A luck win would be when you are badly outplayed and still get the win. That wouldn't have been the case on Saturday had we won.

If anything, Detroit got the "lucky win". Scoring in the last minute on a flukey goal to force OT? They have to feel fortunate it went to OT.

On the postgame show I beleive they said we played a shade over 13 minutes in our own end in the first.

As I said though, we all have our own opinions of what is a 'good' game.
