3rd Jersey and Eric Brewer...

Post by keithp40 »

Just saying....

.....I believe the Blues 3rd Jersey is a bit overrated. I think the Blues should simply ditch this alternate jersey, which is not becoming too much of an alternate jersey anymore because they seem to wear it every other game. I would prefer they use classic jerseys from the organization's past, minus the red splashed jerseys of the mid 90s.

....also, I was all about giving Brewer a chance, but after seeing upclose at the game last night, the man just doesn't know how to lay a hit on someone or be physical. The one hit I saw him attempt was a hip check along the corner, and he completely missed. You can tell that not only does he not hit, he is uncomfortable and awkward when he does it. I feel like I am watching a guy play in a non-contact rec. league. What to do with him? Who knows. All I know is that he isn't working out very well here on the ice. And if the players all love him so much and he is such a great leader (he was voted by the team to be their captain) why not make him assistant coach?

Finally...the goal tending has been good this year, for the most part. I just remember the days when the backup goalie was nothing more than the Vice President of the United States. (someone who was just waiting in the wings, getting a few starts a year, and being groomed to take over.) But now, the Blues seem to always trade, trade, trade for their goalies (Jim Carey, Lalime for example)

.....Just saying.

Can't you set the posting requirements to where you can't create a topic unless you have a minimum of 50 posts?

In his defense I think they do use the third jersey too often. I think it's a cool uni but it's less cool when you see it all the time.

strockland.....

# of posts = right to start new topic? after you justify that, you can then begin to defend eric brewer still being captain of this hockey team. oh wait, am i allowed to give opinions before a certain number of posts? think about it...if there was a rule that required 50 posts before you could create a topic, there never would have been a forum, because everyone started out with 0 posts at one point in time. are you sure you're a blues fan? because you sound more like someone from the detroit area.

Listen, kid. The quickest ways to make enemies and lose any chance of gaining respect around here is to come in guns a-blazin' taking shots at members like you just did. You gotta realize everyone takes a lot of flack around here from everyone else. It's not personal (in most cases), it's just the way things are.

But since it's a slow afternoon and you've pressed by buttons a little bit, let's actually discuss what you want to discuss, shall we?

I severely disagree and so does the majority of the Blues fanbase. Have you noticed the ratio of home/away jerseys in the crowd compared to the alternate jersey. This is quite possibly the most popular jersey this team has ever produced. Is it a complete departure from their traditiona look? Sure. But it's simple, it's classy, and it works. Oh, and I'm pretty sure a well respected national publication *ahem* S.I.*ahem* named this thing the 2nd best of any of the new 3rd jerseys introduced into the league. So I have to say you're in the minority when it comes to your opinion regarding this jersey.

1.) It took you THIS LONG to realize all of this?
2.) If you've spent any time here, (and obviously you haven't) you would know without a shadow of a doubt Eric Brewer is the whipping boy of the fans around here and there's no way in hell he should be wearing the "C". For you to suggest that I would take up the position of defending his captaincy is proposterous and you need to know the facts before making statements like that, rook.

I don't disagree that goaltending has been an issue with this franchise since the Grant Fuhr era ended. However, so has the era in the NHL when the back up goalie is insignificant. You simply don't see #1 guys playing 70+ games a year and then rolling through 4 rounds of playoffs to win a Stanley Cup. It's all about longevity and staying fresh for the playoffs. So you need to get used to that. The Blues have a couple of fairly solid goaltending prospsects drafted over the course of the last few years. The problem is that goalies take a hell of a lot longer to develop than a forward or a defenseman. So sure, the goaltending situation may be a little cloudy right now, but things might shake out here in a year or two. Patience is the key.

Now, I'm not trying to make this a hostile place by any means. The more this place grows, I think the stronger it will get. But to come in here shooting off like that isn't going to get you anywhere. I will do my best going forward to respect your opinions (to a certain extent). But don't expect everything you say here to be taking seriously.
