I think the Blues drafted him in order to get him here this year. It's their sneaky little way of getting an impact player this year for nothing just by taking a calculated risk. Good for JD and Army. If they wanted to keep going, whether it be through trades or signings, they could put together a very strong team for us right now. Hurry the (Frank) up, Kovy!
Tarasenko told the Russian press on July 9th, "I'll know in about a week, where I'll be playing this season." So, we should know within 2-4 days. I think there is a slim chance he'll come this season. But, with his buyout clause for his 2nd KHL contract season (2011-12), he SHOULD come to North America for the 2011-12 season, without any trouble. I think he'll play this season for his father (coach of Novosibirsk). But, I still hold out hope he'll come for this season.
He'd really help solidify the top 9, and the 2nd PP unit. I don't want to see TWO of Subotka, D'Agostini, Hensick, or Winchester among the top 9.
Russians never pan out when the Blues get them. I'll believe Taradiddle's even considering the Blues when he's standing on top of the Arch waving a flag with a picture of toasted ravioli on it.

And at a Cards game, going to Ted Drewes afterwards, participating in a trivia night, saying highway farty-far (44), and asking me where I went to high school.

Strickland was going by The Blues' official statement made before Tarasenko made his last 2 comments on that subject to the Novosibirsk press. Around July 1st he told the press that he wants to play in The NHL this season, and his "people" are looking into that now. That information was not publicised by The Blues (as they don't want to appear to play a part in his getting out of his existing KHL contract). On July 9th, Tarasenko told the press that he would know in "about a week" whether he'd be playing for Novosibirsk or in North America. "About a week" from the 9th is July 15th-17th. We will know for certain in a couple of days. His KHL team's camp has been underway for a few days already, and he hasn't reported yet. So, I believe there is something to his statements that the decision hasn't been made yet.
I think it's a longshot, but still possible. I'll wait for a few days to hear the answer. In any case, I think we have good news to look forward to, as I believe Blues' management has been waiting to hear about Tarasenko's plans, before trying to help their forward scoring situation. We don't really know that they plan to go only with the forwards currently on the roster and resigning their own free agents (minus Kariya). If Tarasenko doesn't come, they'll likely try to trade for a mid-level scoring forward, or sign a bargain UFA (like Guerin) for less than $2 million, for only one year. Kovalchuk and Frolov are out of the question.
I would imagine the Blues would put him on the roster if he did somehow manage to make it over for this season. God knows there's room for him.
It would force them to make a choice whether to waive Winchester or D'Agostini.

J.R. also said that in today's question/answer session. But, I would have been surprised if he said anything else. THAT is The Blues' Front Office's official policy of not "ruffling the waters". Tarasenko trying to get completely out of his Novosibirsk 2010-12 contract is a delicate situation. They want to stay out of it. That's all on Tarasenko. We have another day or two before we'll know the answer.
