What An Epic Disaster 2010 Was

Post by dmiles2186 »

This team was absolutely maddening out inconsistent they were. You could tell very early on that it would be a frustrating year. They started great, but once they started sliding, they got stuck in a cycle of win 3, lose 2, win 2, lose 3, etc. Every step forward was another step back. A team that has an MVP candidate, TWO Cy Young candidates, and a rookie of the year candidate should not be flirting with .500. On top of that, you have one of the best defensive catchers/signal callers in the game, an annual all star in left field, and a Hall of Fame manager (I don't care what anyone says, name me another manager who would have gotten this much out of his teams in the 16 years La Russa has been in St. Louis).

I know that this board is pretty inactive lately, but I had to vent. This team didn't have as much depth as I (and many others) thought they had. I love the Felipe Lopez signing, but his production was offset once Freese went down and Flip was exposed as an everyday player. This lead to a revolving door of Aaron Miles and Randy Winn, etc. On top of that, Brendan Ryan and Skip Schumacher fell through the floor and were very unproductive. Suddenly, and infield that looked like a good mix of offensive prowess in Freese and Pujols with some solid defense up the middle ended up being Pujols and a bunch of light hitting, subpar fielders.

I gave up on this team quite awhile ago. I'm not prone to do that often, but after they swept Cincy and then lost 8 of 9 or whatever, I was done. If you can't keep winning after taking the division lead with a 3 game sweep, nothing is going to get you over the top. Hopefully 2011 will be better, but there were just so many breakdowns all over the place.

And don't get me started on the Ludwick for Westbrook trade.

Agree with all points! This team had me going crazy. I'm done now, so I'm over that.

I can't stand losing 3 out of 4 to Washington, 2 out of 3 to Pitt, 2 out of 3 to Milwaukee, etc. Then taking 2 out of 3 from Cincinnati and now 2 out of 3 from the Padres. It's just ridiculous! Stop playing down to the competition!

For the record, I agree with what Jack Clark had to say about this team. This team quit!

That damn Ludwick trade was a terrible trade. I still can't get over that shit!
