I would say - yes. Either as an injury rehab or as a straight assignment. If Nikita shows after 5 games that he is vastly superior to the defensive players in Peoria, he would be called up over the players filling in for Polak or the other injured defensemen.
Peoria is over their veteran limit, but would be under if Nathan Oystrick is on the Blues roster or Dave Spina, injured wrist, is made inactive. AHL doesn't have an IR system, but players just have to be healthy/injured scratches to open up a roster spot.
The Rivermen didn't have any extra jerseys for players not playing or on roster, so they didn't have a Nikitin jersey.
