I'd just like to remind you all...
Back at the beginning of the season, you were all bitching about how miserable the Cards were and crying that the season was over after 10 or so games. 3 Atlanta outs away from the playoffs...

Yep, I wrote 'em off. But just like the Blues in '08-'09, it doesn't matter. This is insane!glen a richter wrote:Back at the beginning of the season, you were all bitching about how miserable the Cards were and crying that the season was over after 10 or so games. 3 Atlanta outs away from the playoffs...
HOLY MOTHERASDFJWERALJSDFASCLJWER!!
And by the way, glen, you are the one who says the Blues season is over by the end of November.

Epic collapse in the AL too, Orioles win with 2 runs in the 9th, Rays win with a Longoria homer in the 12th, Red Sox go home. This year I actually enjoyed the wild card. The concept still sucks though.

Re: I'd just like to remind you all...
I'm not sure why anyone should feel ashamed of not expecting an epic collapse.
The Braves ineptitude was far more unlikely then the Cards' run of good baseball.
I by no means mean to take anything away from the Birds, what they did was incredible. I'm just stating that 'expecting' it required 'expecting' the Brave to collapse the way they did and 'expecting' that is still idiotic even though it happened.
Think of it like buying a Powerball ticket. You would bye one if you thought their was not chance in hell of winning, but you don't quit your job when you buy the ticket. You reserve yourself to the fact that it's extremely unlikely that you will win.

I hope the Phillies makes it a quick ass whooping on the Cards, so they won't interfere with the Blues season.

Re: I'd just like to remind you all...
I'm pumped. I can't say I like our chances vs Philly, but stranger things have happened (like both WC's this year lol). Bob Ramsey today predicted that the Cards win the World Series IF they get past Philly. I think I like that prediction. We're gonna have to remain hot to get past Philly, and if we are hot, I think we win.
I think I'm in the minority, but I would start Carpenter in game 2. I know it's short rest, but it allows him to come back on full rest for game 5. He can't pitch more than once if he starts game 3 though.
For those that haven't seen, here's our rotation:
1 Lohse
2 Jackson
3 Carpenter
4 Garcia
5 TBA
I also like Jackson over Lohse, but that's not that big of a deal. If we can steal a win in game 1 or 2, I like our chances. Carp is on fire, so I like our chances of then going up 2-1. Then, we have Garcia. Phillies struggle against lefties and Garcia is ~dominant at home. There's always the chance that his twin shows up like he did in Houston though.

Dude, Jackson over Loshe????????
I'd take my chances with you on the mound over Jackson.
Sure he hasn't been terrible, but when is he ever GREAT. He's a prototypical back of the rotation regular season guy that should never start in a playoff series unless you're two games up or you're only other option is Jake Westbrook.
We had better d*mn well hope Loshe steel game one or we'er going to be asking Carp to save our season again.

Re: I'd just like to remind you all...
Jackson's been pretty solid for us. 5-2 3.58 ERA. His WHIP is pretty high at 1.462 though which is very concerning.
However, I've somewhat flip-flopped on this. Jackson is a flyball pitcher and Philly has a hitter's park that isn't good for a flyball guy. And, Lohse has been very good in September. I get very nervous whenever he pitches though.
It turns out the rotation I heard was wrong though:
1 Lohse
2 Carpenter
3 Garcia
4 TBA
5 TBA
I love having Carp in game 2 for a few reasons:
1. It allows him to pitch game 5. It also sets him up for game 1 of the NLCS if we win in 3 or 4.
2. It allows Garcia to pitch game 3, which is ideal. Garcia is much better with an extra day of rest, and much better at home than on the road. Philly also struggles against effective lefties, so getting him in the rotation for a guaranteed start is good.

Again, as I said....he's a fine regular season, back of the rotation, innings eating guy....But if the birds are down two games to one.....I doubt they'll give him the ball in game 4

Jackson is a flyball pitcher and Philly is a small yard. Keep him on the bus if you have to.

Jackson pitched very well in game 4.
If only Lohse had pitched as well as Jackson, we may have won this series in 4 games.

Re: I'd just like to remind you all...
I appreciated his outing, but I still think Lohse is a much better pitcher.....or at least has been when healthy of late.cprice12 wrote:Uhhh....yeah....DaDitka wrote:And it hopefully keeps Jackson off the mound.cardsfan04 wrote:Jackson's been pretty solid for us. 5-2 3.58 ERA. Jackson has actually been really good for us. Other than that one game against Milwaukee and a high WHIP (which is legitimately concerning), I have no complaints about him.
