Post-season awards

Post by JPonder94 »

Alright, I compiled a story on the front page that is, what I believe, the Blues awards. I want some feedback from you all on two things:

I renamed all of the NHL awards to be Blues awards (for example, the "Hart Trophy" is renamed the "Brett Hull Trophy"). What would you all have named these awards?

And, of course, the real question is who deserves each award. Post your answers here. Remember, these are just for our beloved Blues.

Quick reminder of all awards:

Lady Byng (most gentlemanly):

Bill Masterton (most dedicated):

Bridgestone Messier Leadership Award (best leader):

Frank J. Selke (best defensive forward):

Calder Trophy (rookie of the year):

Vezina Trophy (best goalie):

Norris Trophy (best defenseman):

Hart Trophy (MVP):

2010-11 LGB Sponsor of Alexander Steen
2011-12 LGB Sponsor of NHL All-Star Brian Elliott
2012-13 LGB Sponsor of Jaroslav Halak

Lady Byng (most gentlemanly): Demitra Award - McDonald

Bill Masterton (most dedicated): Unger Award - Steen

Bridgestone Messier Leadership Award (best leader): - Brian Sutter Award - Backes

Frank J. Selke (best defensive forward): - Rick Meagher Award - Backes

Calder Trophy (rookie of the year): - Barret Jackman Award - Pietrangelo

Vezina Trophy (best goalie): - Glenn Hall Award - Halak

Norris Trophy (best defenseman): - Chris Pronger Award - Pietrangelo
I rate Pronger as a tick above MacInnis, mainly because Pronger's best years here were better than MacInnis' best years here...and pronger was here longer, and won the Hart and Norris in the same year. I almost suggested the Scott Stevens Award, but he wasn't here long enough. IMO, Pronger is the best defenseman we have ever had.

Hart Trophy (MVP): - Brett Hull Award - David Backes

If they are in fact considering Jackman as the next captain, I am the only one that see this as an indictment on the leadership actually provided by Backes?

I know we fans 'suppose' he provides leadership based on his hard play and constant competitiveness, but what do we know?

I know I heard a lot about Pertro's leadership last year, heard very little from those close to the team in that regards to David, and now 'supposed' word that they are leaning towards giving the 'C' to Jacks.....

I'm not trying to make any statements here, I'm just trying to put the pieces together. I just figure that if you think David is a good candidate for Captain, why not make the move now and bring some stability to the 'C'?

IMO....and this is only my opinion.....if they give the 'C' to Jackman it's because they are not convinced Backes is the answer and/or they are contemplating Petriangelo but are not ready to make that move.

For what it's worth, JR reported a big part of Brewer keeping the 'C' as well as a big part of trading him was the organization refused to take the 'C' from a player. Giving it to Jackman gives them another season to evaluate the options and not have to worry about taking it back since his contract expires at the end of the season.

oh and you all forgot .......

Yeah, most Hawks fans hate him. Even though I hated the fact that he went to Detroit, I understand his reasons for doing so. He wasn't going to be re-signed, and Detroit gave a good shot at winning a Cup. The only time I booed him was when he came back for the 75th Anniversary team (2001) picture. It was taken on the ice before the Hawks/Wangs game...all of these retired guys, a couple of active players (Chelios present, Roenick and Belfour were playing elsewhere). They gave him his jersey and he put it on the ground. He's in the Hawks 75th photo in a Red Wings jersey. I booed the (Frank) out him at that point. I didn't really expect him to put on a different team's jersey when he was about to play them, but still...

I'm too loyal to the team, I guess. I recognize and appreciate all that he did in a Hawks uniform.

Well, I despise the guy. Not only did he play for my two-hated rivals while I was growing up, but he was a whiny bitch at the end of his career who hacked and slashed every single play. What makes it worse is that he would complain more than anyone when he would actually get called on it.

Not to mention he lied to his fan base, played for a team that he grew as a player hating then expects Hawk fans to just forgive and forget. The guy is a hypocritical piece of garbage in my book.

I do respect you for "remembering the good times" so to speak, but I just can't allow myself to ever admit he is a decent hockey player or human being for that matter.

How about some real blues awards

Post by STLBluesIsMusicNotHockey »

What are you calling blues?
Who are you naming blues awards after?

Here is where you should be going:
  • Big George Brock award
  • Silvercloud award
  • Fontella Bass award
  • Henry Townsend award
  • Johnnie Johnson award
  • Oliver Sain award
  • Albert King award
  • Peetie Wheatstraw & Lonnie Johnson award
  • Bennie Smith award
Now that's REAL blues, not this hockey BS. The music made Saint Louis great for almost 100 years before hockey was in town. Support your team yeah. But a lot of cities have hockey. Only 2 or 3 can lay legitimate claim to being the home of blues music. Saint Louis has got something that almost no other city has, and people in other countries know Saint Louis bluesmen better than Saint Louisians. Now keep the blues alive. The real blues.

This is the most ignorant post I have ever read.

Everyone knows that the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League are named after the song of the same name and the rich heritage of Blues music. Thus the name. Or did you happen to miss that?

Miss the Bluenote on their chest? Miss the fact that without the rich heritage of Blues music that the team would be called something ridiculous? I'd bet the Falcons just because I have a feeling that would have been choice b.

If you want to celebrate Blues MUSIC, great! This happens to be a forum for Blues HOCKEY. Or did you miss the guys on the front page with sticks and pads?
