Mellanby to Depart Blues Organization
T. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced Wednesday that Blues Assistant Coach Scott Mellanby will depart from the organization to explore other career opportunities.
“We thank Scott for his hard work and dedication in our organization over the past two seasons,” said Armstrong. “He is a true professional and we wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors.”
"I would like to thank the Blues organization for giving me the opportunity to coach in the National Hockey League," said Mellanby. "After two years of coaching I realize my passion is in the hockey operations department, which I would like to pursue. I have enjoyed my time here as a player and as a coach and wish nothing but the best for the Blues and their fans."
Mellanby, 45, has served as a Blues Assistant Coach for the past two seasons during which the team posted a combined 87-55-22 (196 pts) regular season record including the second best record in club history and a trip to the Conference Semifinals in 2011-12.
A former 21-year NHL veteran, Mellanby spent four seasons in St. Louis appearing in 235 games with the Blues.

Best of luck, rat man.
Re: Mellanby to Depart Blues Organization
The Blues should hire Tarasenko's dad as the new assistant coach. That'll get him over. Sorry, wrong thread.
I've always liked Mel. Hopefully he enjoys whatever it is he's going to do next.

Re: Mellanby to Depart Blues Organization
That was my first thought when I saw the headline, but he says he wants to leave coaching and move into operations. Our front office is already pretty full, Hull is on his way, and Walt is lobbying for a gig as sell. So if he wanted off the bench, there probably wasn't an opportunity here for him.Portland Blues wrote: Seriously though, wonder what the real story is?

Are you kidding? Hull, Mellanby, Tkachuk, and MacInnis? We just need another D and a goalie!DaDitka wrote:That was my first thought when I saw the headline, but he says he wants to leave coaching and move into operations. Re: Mellanby to Depart Blues Organization
If he ever decides he wants to get back into coaching, Mellanby will be more than welcome anywhere in the future. TBH, I think if florida finds themselves in a position to need to overhaul their coaching staff in the next couple years they would be wise to consider bringing in a Head Coach/Assistant Coach combo of Dave Lowry and Scotty Mellanby. The nostaligia for 1996 alone will fill that house for a few years, and I think Lowry would make a great NHL coach.

I don't think there is any hidden meaning to this. Dude just wants to do something else. From the sounds of it, he just didn't want to be a coach any longer.Portland Blues wrote:Seriously though, wonder what the real story is?

It's alright, the Blues have like 8 assistant coaches to spare.

Jeff Brown is one of the guys rumored to be amongst those the Blues could hire to replace Mellanby.
I have no idea if Jeff Brown is the best guy for the job, but I was a big fan of his when he was here in the early 90's. It would be cool to have him as an assistant coach.

Re: Mellanby to Depart Blues Organization
Brown coached the River Otters for a few seasons and has been the coach for the St. Louis Bandits. He is pretty well liked by his players and seems to have a pretty strong grasp of the game. Bandits are two-time Champions under him. He may be ready for the big step.cprice12 wrote:Jeff Brown is one of the guys rumored to be amongst those the Blues could hire to replace Mellanby.

Not to mention his experience as a puck-moving defenseman may not be a bad thing for our three movers and shakers on the blue line.
