I seriously ......seriously doubt that. DPs deal is an average of more then 3.5 mill a year. Oshie has NEVER......NEVER scored over 20 goals and DP did it in far less games. I appreciate the hell out of Oshie, but it's all about production (mostly goals) when if comes to $$$$$$$. At this point we know what TJ is...he's a hard nosed two way guy that will give you 100% and tally up to 20 goals and 50 - 60 points. Would even argue that many in the organization may have viewed his ceiling higher before last season then they do now.

Now, It also depends on what you consider 'significantly higher'....I could see Oshie get 4 years @ around 4 - 4.25 mill a year (in part because of how much the fan base loves him), but not a penny more. The fact that he hasn't signed yet makes me think he could be looking for much more which may mean we agree to another one year deal.

Which is why he filed for arbitration, so the contract is up to whatever the arbitrator decides. No negotiating any more.

You know it's been a slow free agency year when the headline story on TSN is about Aaron Palushaj's one year, two-way contract

Selanne is coming back for another year. One year, $4.5 mill. Guy is ageless

Yeah, while they 'could' still settle it out side of arbitration, JR said yesterday that he doesn't believe the two sides are even talking.

I believe they said only one player made it to arbitration last year, but if these two are really that far apart........

Watch out folks Blues did some more signing today...
The St. Louis Blues on Monday re-signed forwards Chris Porter, Anthony Peluso and Brett Sonne to one-year, two-way contracts. No financial terms were disclosed.

Porter appeared in a career-high 47 games for the Blues this past season, scoring four goals and adding three assists for seven points. The 28-year-old has played in 98 NHL regular-season games, all with the Blues, scoring eight goals and adding eight assists for 16 points along with 27 penalty minutes. The Toronto native was originally drafted by Chicago in the ninth round (No. 282) in the 2003 NHL Draft and was signed by the Blues as a free agent on Aug. 21, 2007.

Peluso, 23, played in 61 games for the Blues' American Hockey League affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen, this past season, scoring four goals and five assists for nine points along with a team-leading 159 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-3, 235-pound forward was drafted by the Blues in the sixth round (No. 160) in the 2007 NHL Draft.

Sonne, 23, played in 70 games for the Rivermen this past season, scoring eight goals and adding nine assists for 17 points along with 40 penalty minutes. He was originally drafted by the Blues in the third round (No. 85) in 2007.

Our offensive problems are solved! Sonne scored 100 points in a season..... once.... at a lower level.... on a very offensive minded team. :ninja:

Always puts it into perspective for me about not feeling bad about never making it to the show :okman:

Seriously though, its guys like him that put it in perspective. You can be good, DAMN good, at some of the most major junior leagues in North America and just not make it. Then you get someone like Stempniak going in the 5th round, does point per game in the gridiron Ive League :P and scores 27 in his first full season in the league.

I'm just glad I'm not the one who has to make these decisions on these kids. I don't know where they do the analysis for this but its way over my head either way

Just a consideration:

1) It took him 4 years to adjust to the WHL.
2) His numbers for his first 3 WHL seasons were similar to his first 3 AHL seasons.
3) He has played 3 years in the AHL.
4) Let's see what happens in his 4th year in the AHL.

Granted, this could be completely wrong, but it is worth considering.

The big negative.... It means he would not contribute meaningfully to an NHL team until reaching his 4th year on that team. Of course, AHL is closer to NHL, so the time frame would be less - IF he finally adjusts to AHL play.

Armstrong heads to Toronto for Oshie's arbitration case. I think this thing's going to go the distance.

Wow. Surprised he got $7 million, even on the 1 year deal.
- His goal totals have declined the past 2 years.
- He only registered 54 pts. in each of his last two seasons...and last year was a contract year. (Oshie had 54 pts. last year)

I know he's only 28 and should be entering the prime of his career...but he's a one dimensional player who is considered lazy, that has had declining numbers the past two seasons.

We'll see how he does. Maybe he needs a change of scenery.

That's what you get for trying to make sense of this crap. I'm telling you, it's all going much higher then any of you think.

Like I said...If we offered Pie 5/30 right now.....I don't think he'd take it (though we should at least find out).

It's no longer what someone is worth...it's what will some desperate idiot pay them.
