Blues Historic Moments... Where were you?

Post by cprice12 »

Some discussion for the sans-hockey time...

I was reading another thread that brought up the Joseph vs. Cheveldae fight and it got me thinking that I remember exactly what I was doing, where I was standing, etc. when I saw that. It's one of those moments that, if you saw it live, you remember exactly where you were and what you were doing.

For that fight, I was working at the Elk's lodge as a bus boy and I was trying to catch bits and pieces of the game in the lounge. I couldn't believe what I was seeing when I saw it. You hear about goalie fights every so often, but I had never seen one live...and for it to be against the rival Red Wings? Awesome.

One moment that sticks out in my head is watching Pronger take the slap shot to the chest and collapse on the ice. I believe it was Mother's day, 1998. My family was all eating at Lady of the Snows in Belleville as we did many times. I had brought in a little 5 inch black and white TV that ran on like 16 D batteries or something. Started off watching game with TV hidden between my legs in my mom's huge bag purse. But once Pronger when down everyone wanted to know what was going on and there was no more hiding the TV. So we had ate the rest of our meal with the TV on the middle of the table. Got great service from the waiters coming by to refill our drinks the rest of the meal.

This isn't an all time historic moment but it's something I won't ever forget. I started getting into hockey when I was about 6-7 years old. My dad took me to my first game at the Old Barn right before they shut the place down. This would have been around 1992-1993. We sat all the way up at the top by these huge air ducts and we were able to see Gretzky and the Kings against Brett Hull and the Blues. I've loved hockey ever since. I was 19 at the time the lockout ended and started going to more games and it's been solidified as my favorite sport since then.
