Oshie Out for Regular Season

Post by cprice12 »

Well shit.
Oshie has ankle surgery

A day after Blues forward T.J. Oshie suggested he was close to returning to the lineup, he had surgery on his left ankle to repair a stress fracture.
The Blues released the information late Tuesday afternoon. The surgical procedure, deemed successful, was performed at Washington University Orthopedic Center. Oshie, originally placed on injured reserve April 2, is listed as week to week.

But it appears highly unlikely Oshie will return before the regular season ends April 27. The Blues can only hope to go deep enough into a postseason appearance to get him back.

“He had surgery so it’s obviously significant,” general manager Doug Armstrong said. “We believe he will be back, but at this time of year you don’t want to put a timetable on it. I’m comfortable that if we play well, he’ll be a part of it as we move forward.”

In his fifth season, Oshie is a fan favorite and among the young players with whom the Blues have rebuilt their franchise. But when it comes to ankles and absence, he is to the Blues what oft-injured David Freese has been to the Cardinals.

During his rookie season of 2008-09, Oshie injured his left ankle against Pittsburgh and missed just over a month. In 2010-11, he missed 33 games with injuries overall, including 31 with a broken left ankle. He also missed four games in 2009-10 because of an appendectomy.

This is Oshie’s second extended stay on the injured list this season. He missed three games previously with sore ribs. While this injury is to the same left ankle, the fracture was on the inside of the ankle, i.e. a different spot.

Oshie played in 80 of 82 games last season, posting career highs of 19 goals and 35 assists and a plus-minus rating of plus-15. He has dressed for 30 games this season. He has seven goals and 13 assists for 20 points, with a minus-5.

Wondering if the Blues hired some of the Cardinals team trainers/doctors. Delay, delay, delay....season ending surgery.

Balls. Oshie doesn't score a lot, but he's one of those players that makes all the guys around him better.

The screw is there to help it heal quicker...and it's just a stress fracture. You'd think he'd be back in 2-3 weeks.

Oshie is one of my favorite-players on the team. hope that at least for the play-offs he will be back, 1-2 reg. season games would be great to get in shape i think, but apparently that won't happen

I'm worried that even if he does come back, he won't be at game speed right away. And, the playoffs isn't a good time to try to get back in the swing of things.
