Anyone here own a bearded dragon?

Post by glen a richter »

I just adopted one, a guy at work has two and they screwed and had some babies so he set me up with a tank, the lights and one of the juveniles. But coincidentally he also had to leave work for the rest of the year because he has to get regular treatments for something similar to MS and won't be back until September so it's pretty hard to get in touch with him. So at the moment I'm kind of in the dark about maintenance and the kid isn't eating much. I'm kind of worried there's something wrong. Anyone more experienced in the care of reptiles care to help me out here?

I had one for about 5-6 years, but he was already an adult when I got him. They make great pets and are easy to care for once you get their environment set up in terms of basking zones, proper temperatures, etc. This website and forum is a great resource:

Check out the care sheets and post questions in the forum. Good luck and let me know if you have other questions! I'll try to help, but I've never raised a baby beardie. If you need other stuff for the habitat, check craigslist. You can usually get some good deals.

Thanks man. I was feeding her a whole bag full of crickets at once and someone told me that's a stupid idea because she can't eat them all and when they sleep, the crickets gang up and attack the dragon. So now I'm feeding her in a separate box away from her tank. Unfortunately not 20 minutes ago I knocked over the cricket keeper and spilled about two dozen of them on the floor. I think I rounded them all up, but there might be some chirping later on. Hopefully the oppressive heat we've been having kills any strays that I might have missed. Little bastards are hard to catch and the next feeding is happening outside for sure.
