Re: The Offseason Thread
amid the downtime in whats shaping up to be a great finals, some interesting off ice happenings
Flyers trade for Streit's rights. This should decrease the blues' offer sheet risks on D some, (Combined with the cap lowering and other likely candidates having their own contract issues), as the Flyers seem the only team likely to take that route that isn't looking to 'build off of this year's performance'.............. since they bit.
An RFA offer sheet to a forward........I'd think hard on that one. Assuming its high enough to net 4 first rounders, not sure I wouldn't take the picks over any of our forward RFAs.
Flames reportedly offered the Aves 3 first round picks (6, 22, and 28 I think) for the #1 overall and were rebuffed.
Joe Strauss' column today I thought was dead on the money. Its more speculation than anything solid, but pretty much the points he makes are exactly the ones I make (here and elsewhere). Whether major trades will happen (or more likely when they happen) is yet to be seen, but it seems Armstrong's saying 'the right things' while planning some revamping. Some much-neede revamping in my opinion.

Re: The Offseason Thread
I would take 4 first rounders in a heartbeat for any forward on our roster, probably any player at any level of our system. I think to get 4 first rounders a contract has to have an AAV of like 7.5mil or something though. No chance that happens.

Re: The Offseason Thread
I guess I was looking at the 2005 numbers($5,000,001 and above netted 4 1sts). The figure for 4 firsts this offseason is $8,410,976. Now that number is the total value of the contract divided by the lesser of the length of the contract or 5, so $5 M per for 8 years is the same as $8 M per for 5 years, but none the less the compensation we'd likely be looking at is the 1st+3rd ($3,364,391 to $5,046,585) or 1st+2nd+3rd ($5,046,585 to $6,728,781)range. Under $5 M per we'd probably match (the relevent forward RFAs being Stewart and Berglund). $6.5 M would you take the picks? $7 M nets two 1sts plus a 2nd and a 3rd.cardsfan04 wrote:I would take 4 first rounders in a heartbeat for any forward on our roster, probably any player at any level of our system. Re: The Offseason Thread
I wouldn't take a single pick. We don't need picks, we have an entire team that are essentially glorified picks. What we need are proven first line forwards. I'd rather pay 7m for one of those than have a stack of picks.

Re: The Offseason Thread
I still don't get the "Halak is injury prone" crowd.
How so?
Even this year's injuries can be chalked up to not being in game shape due to the lockout and trying to come back too soon.
Jackman runs him and the groin. What else am I missing that's caused him to miss significant time??
I vaguely recall a hand injury that made him miss a few games, but what else??

Re: The Offseason Thread
That groin has been injured more than once in recent years. I don't know if that's "injury prone" or more accurately "prone to a specific injury" but it is worth mentioning and I am sure other teams would factor that in to his assessed value.
I have no issues with him being on this team, but if he can get us back some offensive punch, I would be happy to see him go.

I'd mostly agree with that. I don't feel that he NEEDS to stay, or that he NEEDS to go, either. I'd actually rather dump some of our underperforming forwards in exchange for someone who can score 30 goals, and stick with a goaltending tandem of Elliott and Halak. But how likely is that to happen? It doesn't look like there are many good UFA forwards hitting the market this offseason, and no one wants our garbage in exchange for a legit scorer. Halak may be our best bargaining chip.not_a_wings_fan wrote:That groin has been injured more than once in recent years. Re: The Offseason Thread
I had read the Blues weren't going to be too active in the FA market, but in this article, the author suggests the Blues could look at Patrik Elias, Ryane Clowe, Pascal Dupuis or Clarke MacArthur. Other than Elias, who is a bit too old for my liking, I wouldn't mind seeing any of the other 3 in the Note next year. It's all going to depend on how much it will take to resign the RFA's.STLADOGG wrote:http://www.tsn.ca/blogs/scott_cullen/?id=425502

Danny Briere's contract looks like it will be bought out.
This guy is money in the playoffs, would you guys like him with a note on his chest?

Colorado has made it clear they don't want to draft Popeye Jr. So I propose Perron & Stewart for the #1 pick right now. No questions asked, all contracts changing hands, Blues make Jones the 1st pick and then promptly trade Shattenkirk and a prospect for someone who can score a damn goal on a regular basis.

Re: The Offseason Thread
I highly doubt that Perron and Stewart would net you the #1 overall pick. The Blues nearly offered their entire collection of 2007 draft picks for the right to draft Pat Kane #1 overall and the Blackhawks turned them down. To even get in the conversation, you'd probably also have to offer a 1st rounder (which the Blues don't have) so that Colorado could trade down along with other picks. Or a 1st rounder for next year (plus other picks), but that does the Avs no good seeing as they were the worst team in the league.glen a richter wrote:Colorado has made it clear they don't want to draft Popeye Jr. So I propose Perron & Stewart for the #1 pick right now. So really, the next step is trading a BIG name (ala Shatty or Petro) along with some of the guys you mentioned. Then you might get Colorado to listen.

I heard somewhere that Bobby Ryan and Kris Letang are likely to be traded. No need for Letang obviously, but would be awesome if we could somehow find a way to get Bobby Ryan.

He's only 33, bro. Sure his stats have tailed off a bit but a change of scenery could do him wonders. He has and can score 30+ which would help a lot. And he's probably got a good 4-5 years left in the tank.sseagle wrote:Olllllld guysssssss.glen a richter wrote:Lecavalier is an interesting thought.

Dude is 33. He's not the player he was, but he's definitely put up some numbers in his past that no one on the current roster has really approached.
