Berglund re-signs; 1 yr, $3.25 million

Post by WaukeeBlues »

One down, 5 to go. I guess not particularly shocking given the Blues' brass "prove it" type contracts they've given out to our forwards as of recent years. I'd expect more lengthy deals for Petro and Shatty right?

The Blues have agreed on a one-year contract extension for Patrik Berglund, a league source has told the Post-Dispatch.

The 25-year-old center who was set to become a restricted free agent on July 5 will make $3.25 million in 2013-14. The contract has not been signed, according to the source, but the two sides have agreed in principle.

Berglund, a first-round draft pick in 2006, has 92 goals and 188 points in 358 games with the Blues.

In 2012-13, Berglund was second on the club in goals with 17 and third in points with 25. He played in all 48 games last season.

Berglund's agreement leaves the Blues with five restricted free agents to sign before the start of free agency: forward Chris Stewart and defensemen Alex Pietrangelo, Kevin Shattenkirk and Kris Russell, and goalie Jake Allen.

I don't mind it, the price tag isn't too steep. I just hope he eventually steps up and puts up some numbers. As always with Berglund, when he's on, he piles up numbers in a short time. But when he's cold, he's completely invisible on the ice for the most part. I'll say the same thing about Stew, just stay consistent.

I like this deal a lot. $3.25 mil isn't bad. But, 1 year is awesome. He needs to prove himself or peace.
