NHL.com wrote:It looks like featuring legendary New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur on the cover won't be the only nod to hockey history in EA's NHL 14 video game. To mark the 20th anniversary of the release of the iconic NHL 94 title, EA will feature a special anniversary mode in the latest installment of their best-selling hockey game.
That means gamers will have the option of enjoying the latest and greatest installment of EA's game with a little retro flair. By choosing to play in anniversary mode, players will be able to enjoy all the minimalist features that made NHL 94 one of the most iconic sports titles in video-game history.
That means no penalties or offsides, and the return of classic viewing angles and other nuances that were abandoned when the NHL series became more advanced. Even the simpler button controls from NHL 94 will be at players' disposal, along with throwback organ music and other special features. It's the perfect homage to the classic game that helped lay the foundation for one of the world's top sports-gaming franchises.
EA's announcement regarding the NHL 94 anniversary mode comes after Brodeur was unveiled as the player who would be featured on the cover in the latest installment of the game. Brodeur was the winner in a vote conducted online that started with 60 NHL players and generated more than 22 million votes.
NHL 14 will be available Sept. 10 in North America and worldwide Sept. 13.

But will I still be able to play the same line for 60 minutes, have Brett Hull score 20 goals a game and Jim Hrivnak gets the only shutout of the season?
Huh. Guess I'm getting old...would have sworn '94 had penalties...then again, I've owned every year of the game since NHLPA '93 so I get them confused.
They won't have the rosters from that time period will they? 2K's NBA series has been implementing classic rosters in recent years, would love to see them do the same with the NHL game. From the article, it doesn't sound like they will have time specific rosters, but I'll hold out hope.

haha probably not.
From what the video on NHL.com looks like, they're allowing you to play with current NHL rosters in 1994 uniforms and 1994 game modes. (in other words: Anaheim Ducks in their old green and maroon, the Minnesota Wild (Or Stars I don't know) in Minnesota North Stars jerseys... etc.
It would've been beyond cool if they had bare bones seperate 1994 rosters and teams for just that purpose though.

It would have been wild to play with the classic rosters, especially since that was just a year after I became a fan (1992-93 season). It would make me feel young again, even if only for just an hour or so.
