Even if Perron ends up scoring 30 goals and 70 points it'll still be a solid trade in my book. I don't believe he was ever going to do that here in St. Louis. Not only was the system not set up for that, we don't have the type of players that compliment his style of play.

Both the system and the players he'll be with fit his skill set, so of course he's going to end up doing better in Edmonton than he would in St. Louis. That doesn't make the trade a bad deal.

I'll not care how many he scores, being on the 28th ranked team in the league will drive him insane and his productivity will drop off ;)

This is exactly right. Perron would naturally score a lot more with The Oilers, but will his +/- be better? We he help his team more? He certainly wouldn't have scored as much in Hitch's system. Not only might Pajaarvi end up scoring nearly as much as Perron for The Blues, but he adds size and speed, a lower contract for some more years, and his defence will be better, and The Blues may get a very good player from that high 2nd round draft choice The Oilers sent along in the trade. They will surely have one of the worst records this season. The Blues got Rattie and Backeswith 2nd rounders.

My only concern with Pajaarvi is that word is he doesn't play as big as he is...so his size advantage would be irrelevant.
Hope that's not the case.

Pajaarvi doesn't play big, never has. Anyone who read the scouting report on him and honored it above their fantasies will know that. But hey, he's had great chemistry in a completely different format with our 3rd-line center...

Go ahead and get in the pre-emptive rationalizations. Yeah, yeah-even if Perron scores 30 and our top scorer has 18, this salary dump will still have been a "solid" trade because, er, the Blues' system. Or something.

He was dumped for cap space in exchange for a borderline-failed prospect. Maybe it will work out, maybe it won't. I'd love to see the Blues' fan base lose this sense of Armstrong being infallible. Eller and Nikitin for Halak and Russell, anyone? Yeah, yeah-I know I'm not supposed to bring up those...

That sounds like someone else we know: Berglund.

Fortunately, Bergs seems to be figuring that part of his game out. Hopefully he shares his knowledge with his slightly younger counterpart. They speak the same language and everything, so it shouldn't be that hard. :)

If money wasn't an issue...right now...I'd rather have Perron. But money is an issue. And we had some big names to sign. So it is what it is. It's not hard to rationalize the moving of Perron though...he has a concussion history, he had a lot of discipline issues on the ice last year, he was underachieving, and he is making $3.5 this year, $4.25 next year and $4.5 the year after that. This is a business afterall.

Halak's issue is his health. He and Elliott combined for crazy numbers two seasons ago. It's quite possible they both do well again this year if Halak can stay healthy.
Everyone...and I mean everyone, loved the Halak trade at the time...I bet you did too.
Looking back on it, based on our goaltending situation at the time...I'd still do that trade because we simply got the best player in the deal.
Halak frustrates me at times, and I am much more comfortable with Elliott in net. But we were/are still a much better team because of that trade.
I'm also not against moving Halak at some point if it addresses a need. But it really depends on how Jake Allen is doing. I think people are ready to anoint him as the backup, when honestly, he hasn't played enough games to jump to that conclusion yet. Yes, he has shown to be very good at times, but the sample size is too small. This is a cup contending team...and having a very green backup goalie that could very well see ice time in the playoffs should something happen to Elliott, is risky.

Armstrong isn't infallible, but he's done a very nice job and positioned this team for a potential cup run. He's trying like hell to win..and trying to do it the smart way...which fans rightfully appreciate. It's hard to criticize too much of what he's done. He gets a solid 'A' in my book so far. But at some point, we need playoff success...so there is that.

It's always fun to see folks try to overstate a negative and try to manufacture some sort of message board controversy over nothing when this should be the best team we have had since before the lockout. But to each his own.
