GDT #10: 10/29/13 > Blues vs Jets > 7:00 PM > FSMW/KMOX

The Jets return to St. Lou for the first time since '96. Unless you count their time as the Thrashers and not as the original Jets, then that was just a few years ago. Which you should, since these Jets have nothing to do with those Jets. Plus, if I'm not mistaken, last time the Thrashers/Jets played in St. Lou, Jay McClement had a hat trick as the team came back from down a few late to tie and win in the shootout. I was there, it was fantastic, only time I've seen a hatty in person.

But yeah, this is the Jets first time in the Lou since '96.

Edit: Yup, here was the last time the 'Jets' were in St. Lou. This video contains one of the worst highlights Eric Brewer ever had here. Ugh.

JETS (5-6-2) at BLUES (6-1-2)

TV: TSN-JETS, FS-MW

Last 10: Winnipeg 3-5-2

Season Series: The Winnipeg Jets overcame Alexander Steen's two goals and a 3-1 deficit on Oct. 18 to defeat the St. Louis Blues 4-3 in a shootout. The teams will play one another three more times in 2013-14, with the next game scheduled for Dec. 10 in Winnipeg.

Big Story: The Blues host the Jets on Tuesday for the first time since 1996, when Keith Tkachuk played for the original Jets franchise that relocated to Phoenix. Tkachuk played for the Jets/Coyotes franchise from 1992-2001, then with the Blues from 2001-2006.

Team Scope:

Jets: The Jets carried a 2-1 lead into the third period of their game Sunday against the Colorado Avalanche until allowing two goals in the final 13 minutes of an eventual 3-2 loss in Denver. Most frustrating to Jets coach Claude Noel was the ongoing blackout of the power play. Winnipeg is 0-for-26 with the man advantage over its past eight games and has only five goals in 49 chances this season. Furthermore, the Jets are 2-for-20 on the power play away from MTS Centre.

"It's getting old," Noel said. "We don't make the greatest decisions, we don't execute, and these are the things we lamented before. We were 0-for-5 [Sunday]; it cost us the game. They got a lot of shots. They have speed, but we created quite a few of our problems. Some of the stuff we did, you really had to give your head a shake. The game was up for grabs, and to me, we let it slip away."

Blues: The Blues busted out of a 1-1-2 stretch that saw them total six goals with their 6-1 win against the Nashville Predators on Saturday, their fourth straight victory at Bridgestone Arena. Steen scored twice, and T.J. Oshie, Jaden Schwartz and Alex Pietrangelo each had a goal and an assist.

“We came out a lot harder today, which I think is expected,” Steen said. “We’re back in the rhythm of things.”

Who's hot: Steen's 15 points (10 goals, five assists) ranks among the League leaders, and he has scored in four straight games. David Backes has two goals and three assists in four games, including one of each against the Jets on Oct. 18. … Jets forward Blake Wheeler has a goal in three of his past four games, and five with two assists in six career games against St. Louis.

Injury report: Jets defenseman Paul Postma is out indefinitely after a blood clot was discovered in his leg. Center Jim Slater and defenseman Mark Stuart are each day-to-day with lower-body injuries. Defenseman Jacob Trouba (upper body) is on injured reserve since crashing into the boards during the Jets' Oct. 18 meeting against the Blues. … St. Louis forward Chris Stewart (upper body) skated Monday and will play against Winnipeg, but Magnus Paajarvi (upper body) is out. Defenseman Barret Jackman and left wing Brenden Morrow are day to day with upper-body injuries.

Alex Steen is the NHL's leading goal scorer. Been awhile since we can say that about a Blue.

Tough to complain with a 7-1-2 record but that wasn't a very pretty game by the Blues. Whatever I guess.

It was a rough game. I thought the Jets' PK was really disruptive and they cashed in on the shorthanded goal. Halak was really good in net. He continues to be a wall back there, for the most part.

So how many last minute, go ahead goals have the Blues scored thus far? Chicago and Winnipeg obviously. Am I missing any others? Either way, that crunch time scoring is a positive. We're all so used to the Blues crashing and burning in the last minutes, it's nice to be on the other side.

Been trying to figure out when the last time it's been. As long as we don't count one game into the season... Would it be Brett Hull?

The only other time I could think would be when Brad Boyes had his 43 goal season, but I don't know if he ever lead. So Brett Hull would be a good guess. When I get some time later today, I may try to look that up.

Either way, preserved in JPG format:

Scott Young had a 40 goal season in 00-01(?). Dunno if he ever led the league, but that's another possibility.

As for the game, so long as we don't make a habit of playing sloppy (we won't), I'm fine being a team that can play poorly and still win.

Alexander Steen is ridiculous right now. There's no reason to believe that he's going to keep it up for 82 games, but he's just not going to be denied right now.

Scott Young had 10 goals in his first 9 games that year. Good chance he was leading the league at that time.

Missed this game, as I will miss nearly every Tuesday and Thursday tilt because I work late those days. But it was nice to see a W as some sort of revenge for the last Jets game. I was hoping for a colossal beatdown, but I guess a soul crushing goal in the last minute of regulation works well too.

Hypothetical question: If Steen were to continue his torrid pace and end the season with 90 or so goals, would all the major networks still kiss Crosby's ass?

Yes. Most of them couldn't point out St. Louis on a map.
