ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced Friday the club has signed forward Ryan Reaves to a four-year, $4.5 million contract extension.
“We are happy to have Ryan in the fold for the next four years,” said Armstrong. “He has grown into a well-rounded player and will continue to play an important role for our team moving forward.”
Reaves, 26, has appeared in 26 games this season, posting five points (two goals, three assists) while ranking third on the club with 65 penalty minutes. Overall, the 6-foot-1, 224-pound forward has appeared in four NHL seasons, all with the Blues, recording 19 points (11 goals, eight assists) to go along with 346 penalty minutes, which ranks 21st among all players since 2010-11.
The Winnipeg, Manitoba native was originally drafted by the Blues in the fifth round, 156th overall, of the 2005 NHL Draft.

This wasn't at all on my radar (probably same for everybody I guess), but it's nice to have a beast of an enforcer who can also actually play hockey too. Nobody will mistake him for a top 9 forward, but I don't ever think of him as a liability like I did Janssen.

Reaves will quietly go about his usual business of bashing faces and contributing next to nothing scoring-wise. Then he'll proceed to score the Cup clincher in OT against a befuddled Boston Bruins team and embellish it by flying across the crease a la Bobby Orr. Best 4.5 million this team spent in a long time.
Reaves has been our best all around enforcer in a long time.
One of the best fighters in the league and his line makes a lot of noise out there. He can also handle the puck a little bit, can forecheck and works the boards well.
